Apple finally revealed Carplay 2 as a carplay ultra in May. Initially, it was to be on Austin Martin, what, and handi cars.
However, a new (Paywall) Financial Times report (through Macromers) claims that several major manufacturers are withdrawing from the promise of support for the next generation of the carplay software system. Refronting manufacturers include Audi, Mercedes Benz, Pool Star, Renault and Volvo.
The massive over hall was announced in the WWDC 2022 and was once again shown in 2023 with the preview of Austin Martin and Porsche Dashboards. When it was initially revealed, at least 14 car makers were listed as future supporters.

Compared to the current carplay interface, ultra is meant to change the entire dashboard. Not only will you see traditional iPhone apps, but also see car information such as speed, fuel levels and temperatures. Apple calls it “a united and permanent experience in all the driver’s screens.”
Apparently, luxury car makers are worried about maintaining their software and car experiences.
From the FT report:
“Some companies have found Apple’s driver’s screens as high access. An executive in Renault, developing a software -controlled vehicle with Google and Qualcomm, said the French car maker told Apple:” Don’t try to attack our own system. “

In addition, Ford, Nissan and Jaguar Land Rover are still appearing on the board, but they will not really comment on the Financial Times.
Apparently, the BMW will enforce the carplay but not the new carplay ultra. Audi looks like he will follow the BMW model, saying he wants to offer a “custom and smooth digital experience”.
Austin Martin already offers a carplay ultra. According to the FT, Hyundi, Kia and Genius are still partners planning to support Porsche’s future.
Despite the shock, Apple apparently told the Financial Times that more manufacturers are coming to the board. “We are closely cooperating with automakers to provide the iPhone and the best car, and it takes time to work,” Apple said.
