When the iOS 26 arrives at the end of this fall, it will bring a new potential to your iPhone – it has the ability to revolve around digital ID in the wallet based on your US passport.

This is a potentially significant increase. When you have to establish who you are, many government documents do not weigh the passport, which not only allows travel but also establishes your accommodation, age and identity.

The digital ID in iOS 26 will not be a complete stand for your physical passport, but when you are asked to offer IDs, it will accomplish many key goals with either the real world or with online apps. And it continues Apple’s ongoing purpose to transform your phone into a single device for payments and IDs, and allow you to keep your wallet in your pocket or even completely at home.

What we know about digital identity features in the iOS 26 purse so far, as well as some other changes that are part of the latest app that will find passengers relevant.

What is Apple’s promise with a digital ID feature in iOS 26 purse?

Let’s get detailed from Apple and its iOS 26 Preview Page: In the wallet app, you will be able to “create a digital ID in the wallet using your US passport.” Then you will be able to store this ID in many people on your phone – though not all – where physical passports can work.

So can I use this digital ID in flights abroad?

The above mentioned “not all” parts. When the digital ID feature on your iPhone lands on your iPhone later this year, do not expect it to be unable to use it in Istanbul or any other international floor flight. You will still need a physical passport for this.

    Then Digital ID is good?

Because there are more destinations than international locations in the world. According to Apple, the digital identity card will work at TSA checkpoints for home travel. It can also be used in other events, especially in apps to provide identification and age verification.

In this sense, it will act like a state ID and driver license that iOS already supports, lest it not in nine states and in Puerto Rico who offer this feature. They are accepted by digital IDs at some TSA checkpoints and can be used to help confirm your identity in apps, such as when you apply for an online credit card and need to prove who you say what you are.

How many airports are we talking about?

It’s difficult to say. Apple’s description page features 14 airports of the United States and Puerto Rico in excellent print, where state ID works at TSA checkpoints. Exterior. , With the digital ID, based on arriving at the US passport, this number will increase.

So how do I get a digital ID with my US Passport?

Once again, this is not completely clear. The feature is reaching this fall, and this is not part of the iOS 26 developer beta that is currently available for download. Exterior. , It will not be part of a public son who will come in July. It seems that like something we have to wait until the release of iOS 26 to test.

However, if you don’t mind some speculation from me, I imagine it would be like the process of applying for a digital ID with your driver’s license or a state ID card. And since I live in one of the places where it is supported, I can tell you a little bit like it.

When I applied for my state ID card, I had to scan both in front of my driver’s license and behind. I also had to take the current picture using my iPhone front camera.

But that’s not all. In California, at least, my iPhone walked towards me by taking my surge shots – where I had to smile, close my eyes and bow my head upwards. My iPhone will vibrate to tell me that each of these additional shots was deposited from an ID camera. Then all these shots and ID card scans were transferred to motor vehicles to ensure that everything was checked.

I imagine that you have to scan your physical passport pages with your phone and submit similar photos to test through the US Department of State.

It looks like it’s just an American feature.

True, only US passports can be used to create a digital ID that is coming with iOS 26. Exterior. , Apple will have to work with governments in other countries to offer a similar feature for the UK, Australia and anywhere else.

You keep mentioning digital drivers’ licenses – which states support it?

Apple introduced this feature to iOS 16, and it gradually increased in the last two years. In addition to Puerto Rico, nine US states where you can apply for Digital ID via Walt app are:

    • Arizona
    • California
    • Colorado
    • Georgia
    • Hawaiian
    • Iowa
    • Maryland
    • New Mexico
    • Ohio

Apple says more states are coming to support.

What else is changing with wallets in iOS 26?

With the arrival of iOS 26, the US passport -based digital ID will not only increase the travel related. Apple Airlines is also promising befold up boarding passes when you add these tickets to the wallet.

Boarding pass stored in the app is also going to add links to airport maps, not only helping you keep your path at your assigned gate, but also what services are close. Find me will also be made support, so you can detect the goods – maybe until you equip this equipment with an Apple air tag.

My favorite boarding pass, which comes to the wallet, is supportive for direct activities, which will be able to share. That way, you will be able to share your ETA directly with someone that is directly on your destination from the wallet app while waiting for you.

Like the digital ID, it is difficult to guess how all this iOS 26 developer will work in the beta, because I imagine it will be adopted by airlines to some extent. And checking these features will also require a boarding pass. But in this fall, I am desperate to target the road and see what the purse is offering my next airport.
