If you are making purchases online, you may have seen Temu and Aliexpress products often looking for your purchase. These items are so cheap that you may be wondering if it’s really theft or you should stay away. I was in this boat too. And I like a good YouTube video where the host tests cheap tech with low -cost retailers.

So, as I am, I decided to try my hand in checking cheap household products from the popular discount market, Alexpress. Now, when buying new pieces of home hardware, gaming gear or audio tech, the cheap tech is usually equal to low quality performance. But as I have come to learn, it’s not Always Case

    Rules of Experience

    • The cost of the product should be less than $ 15.
    • Devices need to be cheaper than the mainstream.
    • It is more likely to make a list of strange devices.

I am glad that it was an authentic experience that had a mixture of good ish products and some really bad things. From the best to the worst, how did my Electric Order come out.

Best: Toya Zigbi Smart USB Adapter Switch

This is the smallest plug in my smart home.

    John Carlson/CNET

USB chargers and small devices for lighting have a lot of space in my smart plugs, so I always wondered if I could get a USB smart plug. I got Toya Zagbi Smart USB Adapter Switch -These include three USB-A ports-a scale for $ 5.02. Such Tiwia devices are hidden jewelry for smart home fans, though they are not always the easiest to work. I’m glad it was easy to link to my Smart Things home automation system.

This is not more than on/off switch, but I like the fact that I don’t need a large USB multi -port charger to run some small USB devices on my night stand. You cannot control ports independently-and power generation is very low to charge most devices, but this is a good option for charging portable speaker or headphones. In addition, it can actually connect any USB power supply, including empty ports on my computer.

Smart USB Adapter Switch Earns AA for value and functionality. As a Zegabi device, this is less than cybersecurity responsibility, which is less than any Wi -Fi device of Alexpress and TEMU.

    Better: USB -driven roof fan

    A small roof fan.

    John Carlson/CNET

The roof fans have always been out, since I live in an archaeological apartment without them. This means relying on the fleet of air circulators in my bedroom and office. But what if the tenant can add a roof fans without the problem of begging to install the property manager? Insert The small roof fan I got $ 14.

I like the design of this fan, especially the 12 -foot USB bone, which is long enough to reach the roof hook without any effort. The fan is amazingly calm and uses three power settings. Nevertheless, it is not particularly powerful, whose highest layout produces light air from a few feet away. Speed and timer control are easy to learn, which is great because the whole manual is written in Chinese. You can get a manual summary using Google Lens to translate the text, but it is largely unnecessary.

Although ordinary ceiling fans are not practical in niche settings, I give B+ to make this product useful.

    Good: Tiwia Zagbi Water Sensor

Water sensor did the right thing but I am not sure why it came with three reset pins.

    John Carlson/CNET

Unlike Toya’s smart USB switch, Tiyya Zegabi Water Sensor did not properly contact my Smart Thing System on the first attempt. Smart Things classified it as a common zigful device – could not see when the sensor discovered the water. This is an example of a textbook of tools that doesn’t always play well with smart home hubs.

So I wrapped up my sleeves and digs the smart Hungarus Edge Driver Builder, a developer to assign drivers to smart home devices. After choosing my spoiler leak sensor from the list of equipment in my smart home, I chose the Zegbi Water Lake sensor driver and formed it as a water sensor. Like magic, the sensor started working. It is very responsible, and I like it uses common AAA batteries.

Extra efforts may cost TU 4.59 that I have paid for the Toya Zegabi Water Sensor, but I can’t give it more than C+ for someone who wants smart home to compatibility out of the box. I can’t guess whether this is great for other smart home platforms, but I suspect it’s better in home assistant.

Worse: Smart Wi -Fi Clock movement method

    No hand on the deck.

    John Carlson/CNET

I recently started moving most analog clocks in my house to move the walking clock, which are less disturbing than a second -hand tuck when you’re trying to sleep at 2 in the morning Smart Wi -Fi Clock Movement Procedure My Google Nest Hub like a digital watch to automatically decide. After that, I had the most disappointing setup experience in the years.

Out of the box, the watch I bought did not come with a hand for seconds, minutes or hours. I spent a long time trying to fit some surviving hands with the previous DIY project, just to find out that the clock doesn’t work.

The included instructions, which came to the printer paper wreath, were not helpful. They do not say that you need to remove the gray “locating needle” from the back of the clock before working. This pin locks the gears in the afternoon, it is likely that the clock will be kept in alignment during shipping and when putting on hands, which is understood on the Wi -Fi clock that sets itself. It took me two hours before I work.

Simple text passwords are visible to everyone.

    John Carlson/CNET

I am even more disappointed with the Wi -Fi connection, which is not even closer to being safe. Any clock can open a Wi -Fi connection to view your network name and password. I am very happy that I used my phone’s hotspot for a temporary network. I give this product, which is cost .0 14.01, which is a D-D- to act as an advertisement, whether it takes a while, and comes with a major weakness of Wi-Fi. However, this is not the worst product through a long shot.

    Worst: smart portable cloth dryer

It is not considered this scary.

    John Carlson/CNET

I just got a beaten health store smart portable clothing dryer in .3 12.32. I won’t waste your time: This is the most dangerous product from my Alexpress order. How can I know that? It melted about 2 hours literally in my first dry session. Plastic in this product is not in any way avoid heat. Even the same shirt was not completely dry, so when laundromes can handle the burden of more drying for a part of the price, there is no reason to buy cheap portable clothing dryer.

When I went online, to see if other users had faced this problem, I saw that the product page was no longer available. With my doubts confirmed, I will not find the features of this terrible product. Instead, I will use it for example to strengthen that it is a risk to buying ordinary electronics from Alexpress, TEMU, desire and other cheap retailers. With some types of tech, you are gambling on your safety and privacy. As you can imagine, this device earns F to be unsafe.

Now, forgive me. When I go to the 90 -day Alexpress Return Policy, which is a bright place. Hopefully, this is a better rent than these last two products.
