Google messages can give you the option to put pressure on those who use SMS on RCS

Google continues to double the Rich Communication Services (RCS) support in messages, and is now preparing to develop a feature that can have some additional effects on users on their low -tech lover contacts.

According to the results in the latest Open Beta Blood of the Message App (messages – Android_20250618_00_Rc00.Phone.openbeta_dynamic), Google is working on a new indicator when you are not using any RCS in your chat list. If the app reveals that your contact has not yet enabled the RCS or is not fully using the messaging app fully, it may offer you the option of sending a reminder SMS whose encouragement is to switch them.

Although this message is described as “friendly”, the overall effect can easily feel like social pressure – especially if many contacts begin to send similar reminders. The gestures will appear along with the usual notification that messages are being sent as SMS or MMS, and from there, users will be able to send a message to stop their contact by activating RCS or installing Google Messages.

Over the past few years, the adoption of RCS has increased permanently, which has a very good experience of texting for Android users. It supports high resolution media sharing, typing indicators, emoji reactions, and end -to -end encryption. But to work for these benefits, everyone in the conversation needs to enable the RCS and use a harmonious app.

It seems that this new “reminder” feature is designed to close this loop intrading to help adopt existing RCS users. And this is not just an RCS -related update we’ve recently seen. As reported earlier, Google is also working on new RCS tags in Google contacts to identify whether someone has turned on the RCS. In group chats, consumers will soon be able to rename this group and assign customs icons – a small but useful touch for the organization.

Although we are still awaiting when this new SMS reminder device will be widely developed, the purpose is clear: encourage users to get away from SMS and to fully embrace the RC. Whether this approach will have the opportunity to stop or disturb them. In any way, it seems that Google seems to be betting that a bit of peer pressure can be pushed to bring more people into modern messaging folds.
