Some of us live up to the gadget “I live” instead of “I live”. They are tools that help you work, not you want to invest in a lot of time or money. If these are you – and here’s no decision by any confirmed gadget nerves – then you might think about more capable ways to spend $ 1,000 than the phone.

Budget phone for rescue. These devices are about $ 500 or less, though not all, and they are more capable. You will not get all the bells and whistles, but you will save a little money to spend, I don’t know, of the actual bells and whistles. This is your world.

    What am I looking for

    How do we test

    Fall

There is no shortcut to properly testing the phone. I put my personal SIM card (physical or something else) in every phone that I review and live with it for at least a week. I arranged every phone from the beginning, loaded it with my apps, and go about my life-to-batat, using GPS navigation on my motorcycle while running the radio, taking pictures of my child’s speeding fire portraits-every thing I could throw on it. Starting with a new phone every week, it looks like a dream or like your personal hell, depending on how you are on the phone. For me, switching has become so common that it is mostly painful.

    Strong software support

    Fall

At least two years OS upgrades and, ideally, three -year security update. If you only have to replace it after two years, it is no point in buying a cheaper phone because it has stopped getting security patches.

    A good screen

    Fall

Since you see it about two thousand times a day, your phone screen is a place where you should not compromise. An OLED LCD has more contradictory and color than, and big screens on today’s phones really need at least 1080p resolution. Budget phone screens are becoming more and more common refresh rates like 90Hz and even 120Hz, but my money LC, smooth scrolling LCD does not look as good as OLED with standard refresh rate.

    Place of actionable storage

    Fall

If you plan to hang on your phone for a while, you want to accommodate enough storage space to adjust all system files, photos and videos that you will be gathered over the years. Ideally you will be made at least 128 GB.

A good rear camera, four not minor

    Fall

Under $ 500 classes are very low in telephoto cameras and optical image stability, but you can still expect good, basic performance in good light from any modern smartphone. Less light is difficult. The phones of this class should offer a night mode to help non -running articles in extremely dim light. And no bonus points are given to add extra macro and depth camera to pad the back camera array- that 2- and 5 megapixel sensors are very useless.

What can you expect from a budget phone? Some of the following combinations: Almost in the board almost almost slowly processors, low storage, and worse camera than flagship phone. Many people have fewer resolution screens and water resistance is often less stronger than a personal phone.

    9 599

    Nice

    • Reliable performance
    • Good, if limited, camera system
    • This is the cheapest new iPhone you can buy

    Bad

    • Not megasaf
    • 9 599 feels like a lot of $ 100
    • Ultra wide not

    Screen: 6.1 inch, 1170p OLED / Processor: A18 Camera: With 48 megapixel F /1.6 OIS, 12 megapixel selfie / Charging: 20W Wired, 7.5W Wireless / Rating the resistance of the weather: IP68

If I am recommending this in front of you, you will be heard a heavy breath. Yes, Apple has done the cheapest iPhone. Yes, it comes with most things that make the iPhone an iPhone. But it comes with some important trade – some of which have more meaning than others – and it’s not at all Cheap If you are working for previous year models or a renewed iPhone 14, one of them may be a better option. But for an unmanned person who only wants a new iPhone for the least amount, 16E will do it.

There is a single 48 megapixel camera on the back, which means there is no ultrauded as a regular 16. It is a comprehensible trade-as well as the use of old “mark” design rather than a dynamic island. But it is difficult to understand why Apple has left Magsaf here – since 2020, there is a magnet ring on the back of every other iPhone. The 16E still supports wireless charging, but it cannot benefit from magnetic chargers and accessories environmental systems. You will need to add magnetic matter. This is a crazy mistake, and Apple should feel bad about it.

Another heavy breath: The 16E supports Apple Intelligence, which you won’t choose the iPhone 15 or 14. Should you care? It’s really difficult to say. So far, what exists about Apple Intelligence is unacceptable and the most interesting bits will not arrive at any time. If you want to make a maximum purchase of your purchase, the 16E will be ready for Apple’s AI. But now don’t buy one while expecting a life -changing experience. For better and worse, this is just an iPhone, and now it’s the best price you will get on new.

Best Android Phone under $ 500

    9 449

    Nice

    • Strong IP68 rating
    • Seven -year software update
    • Bright, large screen

    Bad

    • Lose one of the two features of AI
    • AI is sometimes easy, usually weird

    Screen: 6.3 inches, 1080p OLED, 120hz / Processor: Tancer G4 Camera: With 48 megapixel F /1.7 OIS, 13 megapixel Ultrawide, 13 megapixel selfie / Battery: 5,100mah / Charging: 23W wired, 7.5W wireless / Rating the resistance of the weather: IP68

Google’s Pixel A series phone has been my recommendation for cheap Android phones for years, but there is still room for improvement. With 9A, Google has made some minor adaptations that make even more easier – and at 9 499, the price is fine.

The phone uses a tanker G4 chip set that does not run hot like some of its predecessors, and the performance is reliable. The 6.3 -inch OLED screen is slightly larger and slightly bright than last year, which makes the difference when you use the phone out. Stability also received a small promotion by IP68, which means that it can avoid deep water reduction than IP67-class-closed Pixel 8A.

9A’s camera is fine, though it is shorter than the remaining Pixel 9 series in low light. The portrait format may also improve, and if you care too much about the quality of the image, then it may be a good reason to step up to Pixel 9.

A large, beautiful screen budget phone

    9 599

    Nice

    • The best battery life
    • Scrupted screen for price
    • Six years of security refreshing

    Bad

    • There is no wireless charging
    • Only splash resistant
    • OS Updates less than Google and Samsung

    Screen: 6.78 inch, 1264 x 2780 120hz OLED / Processor: Snapdragon 8 General 3 Camera: With 50 megapixel F /1.8 OIS, 50 megapixel 2 X telephoto, 8 megapixel Ultrawide, 16 megapixel selfie /selfie / Battery: 6,000mah / Charging: 80W wired / Rating the resistance of the weather: IP65

The OnePlus 13R is not exactly as my choice for the best budget Android phone, Pixel 9A. This is also a little primary in $ 599 – although we have seen it at 9 499 for the expansion period – but for some people the 13R upgrade will make it a better choice. It comes with a great Big Screens in her class, and many people like the big screen. 13R also offers very strong battery performance. Unless you are a power user, you can probably manage two full days on the same charge.

The charger included also has a lot of charging, though you will not get wireless charging at any speed. 13R also lacks full water resistance. It should be fined against spray and rainfall, but it has not been ranked to counter the immersion. Many people will not bother these mistakes, but they make it difficult for ordinary audiences to recommend – especially at a cost more than Pixel 9A.

The best phone under $ 400

    $ 360

    Nice

    • Bright, 120 hertz OLED display
    • Strong IP67 dust and resistance of water
    • Five -year refreshing security

    Bad

    • There is no wireless charging
    • Incredible camera system
    • Much efficiency

Screen: 6.6 inches, 1080p resolution, 120 hertz OLED / Processor: Acinos 1380 Camera: With 50 megapixel F /1.8 OIS, 8 megapixel Ultrawide, 5 megapixel macro, 13 megapixel selfie / Battery: 5,000mah / Charging: 25W wired / Rating the resistance of the weather: IP67

The Samsung Galaxy A35 5G comes at a cost of $ 399 with amazing strong fossils. They are the types of features that you will not really see from the outside, but they are important, especially its IP67 rating of dust and water resistance. At this price, unlike every other phone, the A35 is designed to counter the water immersion, so if your phone descends into a toilet bowl or hollow, you don’t need to sweat it.

There is another unprecedented speculation: Four years of OS updates and five years of security updates. It’s not the best in the budget category – Pixel 9A takes this honor with seven years of updates – but it’s far better than two or three years we usually see under $ 500 in the phone.

The A35 5G comes with a water -surviving rating and software support policy that is extraordinarily strong for its class. Photo: Allison Johnson / The Verge

The camera is not low. This is fine in bright light but struggles in dim and mixed indoor lighting. It does not have the strongest processing performance that you can find less than $ 500, either, and the Samsung -made acneos processor is occasionally suppressed at the occasional jokes. I was scared – scared! – When I accidentally text my husband’s answers automatically, it was popped at the last moment because I was trying to tap on something else. These things do not happen when everything is loaded quickly.

But overall, this is a great package-especially with a large, crowded OLED display and strong battery performance. If you are a milder and not unconscious about the quality of the camera, the A35 5G offers some upgrades which makes the real difference in the long -term.

Other budget phones that we experienced

    • 2024 Motorola MotoG Power has all a good budget phone conspiracy, including a beautiful wagon leather outdoor and wireless charging. But it is full of the worst type of blotware, and it disqualifies it by our recommendations. Read our comments.
    • The Samsung Galaxy S 24 is a perfectly capable phone that does not recommend here. It is a bit beyond the scope of this guide at 9649, but you get this price La Tea Photo lens and a good, big screen. Nevertheless, you are better than trying to save a flag and lift the pixel 8A or try to score trade in promo for modern Galaxy S25. Read our review.

Update, June 13: The latest prices and availability. Samsung’s Galaxy A35 is currently 5G In Amazon and Samsung, out of stock, while Best Bye has marked the clearance.
