- Wearing OS users will not be able to install Ligacy Watch’s faces from the Play Store, starting January 14, 2025.
- Legacy Watch’s faces will still work if they are already installed on the device.
- The developer will not be able to publish updates for Ligacy Watch faces on the Play Store.
After Google introduced the Watch Face Format (WFF) in 2023, the faces of the WFF and non -WFF watch remained together. However, it just continued for a short time, as Google finally made the WFF. Since then, the company has been slowly receiving support for non -WFF watch faces on the wear OS. Google has now announced the next step that will fully adopt the WFF.
If you are wearing OS users who care about custom watch faces, you will know that the face of the WSL Watch is being removed androidx and the wear -wearing support library. It began in January 2025, which was used to publish these formats on the Play Store. However, developers are still allowed to publish an update for these legacy watch faces.
Unfortunately, it will change at the beginning of next year. Google says the following changes will wear OS starting January 14, 2026.
- Availability: Consumers will not be able to install Ligacy Watch’s faces on any wearing OS devices from the Play Store. The ligament watch on the already -wear OS device will continue to work.
- Latest Information: Developer will not be able to publish an update for Ligacy Watch faces on the Play Store.
- Minatization: The following will not be possible for Ligasi Watch faces: One One Off Watch Facial Purchase, Buy and Subscripts in the App. Current purchases and subscriptions will continue to work, but they will not automatically renew.
This does not necessarily mean that all these Legacy Watch’s faces will be lost. The announcement states that developers using Androidx or WSL can still move their watch faces to the WFF. However, they will only have the time to re -submit their creations to the Play Store. The company also says that developers using watch -fee studio will also need to be re -deposited in the Play Store using Watch Face Studio Version 1.8.7 or above.
The WFF is an XML template that allows developers to make clock faces that are accompanied by indigenous faces coming with your smart watch. It also helps keep the clock’s faces light and energy efficient, so the use of template benefits. As a result, the defect is the loss of less creativity and clock faces that are not converted to Google format.
