If you use the clothing OS Smart Watch and enjoy the Custom Watch faces, you want to start preparing for a major change. Google has confirmed that the support of the Ligacy Watch faces will formally end on January 14, 2026. This is part of the company’s ongoing pressure to adopt the face shape (WFF) in all OSOS devices.
Google introduced the WFF in 2023 as a new way to design watch faces using XML templates. Since then, it has allowed both the WFF and the non -WFF designs to be at the Play Store. But in the early 2025, Google began to tighten the rules. Developers can no longer publish new clock faces using the old Androidx or wear -wearing support library (WSL), though updates are still allowed. This era of grace is now over.

What will happen in January 2026 here:

    • Consumers will not be able to install Legacy Watch’s faces from the Play Store.
    • The developer will not be able to update the faces of the current Ligasi Watch.
    • Money features such as one -time purchases, these app items, and subscriptions will no longer be available for the faces of these old watches. The current purchase will continue to work, but auto renewal will stop.

Google says any developer who wants to keep the faces of his watch must be transferred to the clock’s face before the deadline. This includes developers who use the watch fee studio, which will need to be updated in version 1.8.7 or when recalling later.

The WFF brings some clear benefits. Since it is based on XML templates, it helps to run the viewing faces more efficiently, uses less power, and keeps dynamic images smooth. But it’s not downward. Some users and developers feel that new format limits creative options, especially more complex or interactive design.

Nevertheless, this change has been coming for a while. Google’s goal is to make the watch facial experience more permanent in devices, which can be helpful as the wear is continuing to expand. Google is trying to balance between openness and stability, compared to Samsung’s growing focus on Apple’s limited watch facial options and AI -based designs.

He said that consumers who prefer old clock faces should be installed before cut off. Although pre-installed designs will continue to work, they may not be updated or helping to move forward, so-you have been warned. This change for some people, this change can mean that unless the developer works on time, therefore the essence of time.
