For those who are not familiar, quarterly platform releases, or QPRS contain more meaningful changes than monthly security patches. However, in the beta, Google says that the QPRS is quite stable for common use. Android 16 QPR1 is expected to be officially launched in September, but Pixel users can already test what is coming.

Early look at the features of Android desktop
This release includes the preview of Android’s better desktop mode for external display. When a Pixel 8 or Pixel 9 is connected to the monitor using a 9 device display port, users can enable a new desktop session with developer options.
In this setup, the phone and monitors run freely. Apps only appear on the screen on which they are launched, and the external display receives a task bar for pin and active apps. Windows are good, and apps can be kept together, as well as what you find on the desktop computer.

With display support, the Pixel tablet users can spread the desktop session in both screens. This allows Windows, content and pointer to move between the display, which acts like a united workplace.

More Desktop Multi -Tasking Tools
Google has also updated the features of last year’s windows. New improvements include:
- Window size and position saving between sessions
- Support for multiple desktop sessions with keyboard or indicator switching
- Flexible window tiling and management
- Multi -window support for apps like Chrome and Cape
- Improvement in compatibility to help show the heritage apps on external monitor
These upgrades show that Google permanently pursue more work like Android’s desktop when connected to large screens.
Big Fixes and Device Availability
The QPR 1 also sets a number of matters found in 2 beta 1, in which:
- Auto Dark Theme is not working
- Now destroyed by falling into play
- The camera is not launching
- App shortcut after install is missing
- Home button problems in the app drawer
- Invalid “More Wallpapers” button was misused
- Gemini Lock is not working on the screen
The update is available for a wide range starting with Pixel 6 series, all the way to Pixel 9A. It also includes the June 2025 security patch and can be obtained by registering for Android beta for the Pixel program.
Google seems desperate to continue with Android updates. To release this son after that Android 16A stable blood signal that the company wants to stay ahead in software innovation. Although not every feature is important to all users, focus on productive tools can make Android more versatiles for people who rely more on their phones more than just basics. I, for one, desktop mode is excited to try ASAP.
