- A Samsung phone, which is thought to have appeared in the Galaxy Z Fold 7 wireless power consortium database.
- The listing shows that the phone does not support the full QI 2 magnetic power profile standard.
- This means that the device does not have magnets in the previous cover and requires a separate case for magnetic accessories.
The Samsung Galaxy S25 series disappointed us not offering help for the QI 2 Magnetic Power Profile (MPP) Standard. Instead, if you want to use magnetically attached chargers and other accessories, the phone needs a case. Now, it seems that the Galaxy Z Fold 7 cannot support the complete QI 2 MPP standard.
9TO5GOGLE Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) saw a listing of the Samsung Phone on the website, and we were able to support this scenario. The listing confirms that this phone supports QI 2.1.0 and baseline power profile (BPP) instead of full MPP standard. This means that the device does not have magnets in the back cover for wireless charging and magnetically connected peripherals. It is priced with the Galaxy S25 series with the same QI version and BPP standard.
The strange thing is that the entered model number SM-D637u is not compatible with a particular Samsung smartphone family. In fact, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 has an SM -956 model number, while the leak shows that Z Fold 7 has SMF 966 model number.
However, 9TO5GOGLE It is rightly pointed out that the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition and the Galaxy Z Fold 5 were listed with the first model number SMD 269N and SMD 617D (viewed above). So it stands because the latest list applies to the Galaxy Z Fold 7.
If it is confirmed, it will mean that a separate case is needed with magnets to align the wireless charger for the upcoming foldable and connect to other accessories. This will also mean that the HMD Skyline is the only Android phone that supports the QI -2MPP.
