Instagram on the iPad has long been one of the most requested and most delayed app experiments in the Apple ecosystem. And after years of speculations, it seems that Meta is eventually approaching its supply.
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gorman, Instagram for the iPad is now in active development, Meta employees are already examining the app internally. If everything is in accordance with the plan, it may be released before the end of the year.
These lines we reported earlier this year, when it became clear that Meta was reviewing her long -standing resistance to launch Instagram on Apple’s tablets. For years, Instagram chief Adam Moussri had reduced the need for an iPad version, suggesting that the user’s base was not large enough to justify the effort. It seems that this position is changing rapidly.
One of the reasons for the delay was technical. Instagram was originally built around square images and small screens, while the major iPad display faced unique design challenges. There were also concerns that low resolution materials could not measure well in a high resolution pill. Gorman has noted that the rendering tools and device capabilities have now made it easier to remove these obstacles.

Another sign that is changing is the recent launch of WhatsApp for the iPad. Meta -owned also, WhatsApp finally made its way to the iPad earlier this year, which presented a full multi -device synchronous and more polished tablet interface. It is likely that Instagram will follow a similar model, whether it be through the ancestral app or through the iPad Optimized version of its web platform. For creators, this news is particularly welcomed. The iPad is already a device for photographers, designers and digital artists. Many of them rely on Instagram to share their work, but they have been forced to use a mobile app or web version with limited functionality. A dedicated iPad app will eventually offer a full screen layout and editing tools that are meaningful for large display.
Meta has not yet announced the official announcement, and there is no guarantee that the app will be revealed in the WWDC. Nevertheless, internal testing is a strong indicator that the launch is no longer a question of whether, but when.
After waiting for more than a decade, it seems that the iPad is finally getting the Instagram app he deserves. The only real question remains as to how quickly it arrives.
