With the anxiety of the flight on the rise, airline carriers are changing portable batteries and policies around the charger around the world.
In the United States, South West Airlines is the first in the four largest US carriers to introduce new sanctions. Starting today (May 29), the airline will need to be seen at all times when using portable chargers.
In the new policy, “Southwestern spokesperson told Tom’s guide that” consumers need to be seen while showing portable charging devices. “

“The use of portable charging devices will not be allowed while storing in the bag or overhead bin,” he added.
The spokesman cited recent incidents of fire worldwide.
The US carrier is following in the footsteps of South Korea, Taiwan and Hong Kong Airlines, which introduced similar policies after destroying a fire in South Korea last January.
Investigators have blamed a power bank for the fire.
Different policies for different airlines
The incidence containing lithium -ion batteries (which is mostly portable charger) on the plane is increasing.
The Federal Aviation Agency data cited 89 reports for 2024 and at least 22 until the month of May this year, which is almost doubled over the years.
Currently, it is only for the FAA to keep the lithium -ion equipment carrying the equipment. The European Union has similar principles.
However, policies are between airlines. Southwest allows you to keep your battery as long as it looks visible.

“In a rare event, the lithium battery caught more heat or fire, urgent access is essential,” said a southwestern spokesperson. “Keeping power banks in a straight look allows to interfere faster and helps protect everyone on the ship.”
In comparison, low -cost Irish airline, Ryan, needs passengers to remove the batteries before storing the bag.
After a fire in Air Bosan, South Korea introduced a law that ordered passengers to reach the portable chargers’ arm and leave the poles. Several other Asian airlines have introduced similar rules or local governments like Hong Kong have rules and regulations.

After introducing the rules and regulations of the UN International Aviation Organization, passenger plans have been banned from cargo holds from cargo holds since 2016.
Batteries can heat or extend more that can start the fire, especially if the battery is damaged or stored incorrectly ..
FAA Resources read, “Flight staff is trained to identify and respond to the lithium -ion battery fire in the cabin.” “Passengers should immediately inform the flight staff if their lithium -ion battery or portable electronic device is more heat, expansion, smoking or burning.”
Tom’s directive reaches other major airlines (US, Delta and United) to see if they are considering implementing a similar policy. If they answer, we will update this story.
