The way Apple calls the company its software updates can be on the path to a major change – and this is a point of view that everyone familiar with Windows 95 or ’57 Chiyi. Bloomberg reported Wednesday that Apple is re -nominating its operating system using the last two digits of next year. So instead of current iOS 18, iOS 26, not iOS 19, when it arrives in the fall of 2025.
Apple’s representative did not immediately respond to a comment request.
Bloomberg cited unknown sources that say additional updates will name iPados 26, Macos 26, Wachos 26, TVOS 26 and Vision 26. According to sources, it is hoped that Apple’s branding is consistent and remove the confusion. Bloomberg has noted that the current operating system, including iOS 18, Wachos 12, MacOS 15 and Visionos 2, use different numbers as they did not start for the first time.
The company is expected to announce a change of name and more compatible user interface at the developers conference around the world on June 9.
It is noteworthy that the story of Bloomberg did not mention changing the name of the iPhones. The current iPhone Model is the iPhone 16, which came out in February. The iPhone 17 lineup is expected to be announced in September, but there is no word about the name of iPhone 26 instead of iPhone 17.
The new number system will reflect the last two digits of next year, instead of 2026, instead of the current year of 2025, like a new automobile. Samsung and Microsoft have used both years -based names.
