- Active growth on the arc browser has stopped.
- The browser company is now taking its attention to a new product called Dia.
- The arc is not closing, but the team is no longer making new features for it.
Last year, the browser company announced that it would pass its focus from its modern arc browser to a new product. However, as the team worked on this new project, they also planned to continue working on the arc. Now active growth on the arc has ended.
In a blog post, CEO Josh Miller writes that his company has stopped active development on the arc browser. The company is not shutting down the arc, but they are no longer making new features for the browser. However, they will still update regular worms and weaknesses.
According to Miller, the ARC lost the expectations because “for most people, the arc was very different, which had many new things to learn. There were very little reward.” He also believes that the browser “lacked harmony – in both its basic features and basic value.”
As mentioned earlier, the company has promoted a new product. According to the company’s name, this new product is also a browser, and its name. The thing that separates Dia from the arc is that it is focused around the browser AI. Miller has explained that his company sees the DIA “as an opportunity to fix things wrong with the arc.” The DIA is currently being tested in Alpha, but the company plans to open access to arc members in later history.
Miller also touches the future of the arc. Apparently, the company considered selling software or going to open source. Although going to open source will probably be pleased with many users, it will be a difficult decision for the browser company. The reason for this is that the arc is built on an internal SD on which the DIA also relies on, so going to open source with the arc will also mean that the DIA has to go to open source. Although the company has just made a decision against these powers, it has not ruled out these possibilities in the future.
