Microsoft is starting updating any third party app that needs to be updated. The software giant is now allowing developers to sign up for a private preview that they call the Windows Update Orchestation Platform, which will enable Windows Update to support any update for future apps or drivers. Its focus is on large -scale business apps, but it will be open to any apps or management tools.
Windows update is widely used to update the basic parts of Windows, as well as key drivers for the equipment as well as some third -party management apps for the periphery. Explaining Microsoft’s product manager Anji Chen, “We are making a vision for a united, intelligent update orchestration platform capable of supporting any updates (apps, drivers, etc.) along with Windows updates.
Most apps on Windows are freely updated, using the update mechanism that developers have created themselves. Microsoft’s new Windows Update Orchestration Platform app developers will take advantage of user activity, battery status, and even sustainable energy time -based updates.
Developers will also be able to hook directly in the Windows Update notifications, and the Windows Update app will be listed in the update history section. Microsoft will support MSIX / APPX packaged apps, and even some customs Win32 apps. Any apps that are part of the Windows Update Archistor will automatically improve the Windows Update platform in the future.
Microsoft has in the past tried to persuade developers to add their apps to the Microsoft Store, where the store can handle updates or the developers can continue to use their update mechanisms. Although the store on Windows has improved a lot in recent years, there are still some lost apps and businesses prefer to update their business apps independently.
Microsoft’s Windows Package Manager has also tried to solve some problems in installing and updating apps on Windows, but it is not a widely used way to install and manage apps out of power users and developers.
Connecting more apps in the Windows Update has certainly mean SENSE of multiple apps, and it would be interesting to see if it would be mainly used by businesses or if large developers like Adobe are in the Windows Update System instead of a separate installer in the background.
