Through all the enthusiasm of Google’s annual I/O 2025, you may have lost more technical developer key note where Google has revealed that it is working on desktop mode for Android 16. You can see the direct chain here where it has been revealed.
Engineering manager Florina Montanisco confirmed that the company is working with Samsung because the new mode is the “construction on the Foundation” of the Dax platform, which is available on Samsung’s galaxy phones.
The company said, “We are cooperating with Samsung, building based on the Samsung Dex, to bring better capabilities of the desktop window in Android 16 for more powerful productive work flu.”

We are cooperating with Samsung, build on the basis of Samsung Dax
After a key note, Google posted a blog about adaptive Android apps where the company said, “The ability to adapt to an app with different screen size is becoming increasingly necessary.”
We know when a version of Google Dax is operating, as the first leaked Android 16 code has revealed a desktop mode that was default. At the same time, a version of the Samsung Dex was discovered in a UI 8 test Bloods, which appeared to be taking advantage of the Android 16 content 3 Express again.

Of course, there were reports last April that the work in Android 15 Bloods was the progress desktop mode but this feature never released and Google did not talk publicly about desktop mode as it happened in I/O this year.
Currently, the desktop mode is still locked in Android 16 beta blood, and it is unclear when Google and Samsung cooperation will actually continue. However, this will be a step closer to giving people more access to this helpful device.
