Last August, my best friend asked me how she could help her neighbor set her iPhone so she could answer it without lifting it. The neighbor had more than one sclerosis (MS), and over time, the skills of both hands were gone. Some Google searches revealed that I was alone in my confusion. So I asked Apple some suggestions. What I said is:
Q: “My friend has advanced to MS and has some (little) control over one of his hands. She can’t really swipe the screen or tape button. She wants to ask Siri only when she receives a call or can ask her iPhone to answer or reject it. My researchThe only way is to have a user connected to air pods or Apple Watch, so Siri can announce incoming calls and hear orders such as “answer” or “dismissal”.
I also looked at sound control access access settings and there is a way to respond to all the calls coming after a certain amount of time. But due to privacy concerns and spam calls, this is not an ideal solution.
I was wondering if you knew any way to respond to the sound command for the incoming calls?
A: Apple replied, but unfortunately the solution… is complicated. I will offer steps to use my iPhone with sound control first, as it provides some effective work. But you should read past steps for some warnings.
How to use Voice Control on the iPhone to respond to calls
Before we start, make sure your phone is running iOS 13 or later. You can also use sound control on iPad or iPod touch (if you still have one). When set the sound control, make sure you are connected to the Internet to download the required files, and Apple recommends that you contact Wi -Fi before you turn on voice control to use the first time. When all this is done, move forward with the following steps.
Open Settings App and search Juice Settings are in the other group of options just below the “general”. You can only find for “access”.
Choose “Sound Control,” Which is listed in the “physical and movement” section.
Sound control By tapping or sliding the toggle with it, and, in some cases, wait for the download to end. If you have first activated sound control, you can also ask Siri to “turn on sound control”.
Once the feature continues, you will see a small number floating around your screen in front of the key elements. Your microphone continues now And your iPhone is listening to your orders.
Read the number with what you want to mobilize. If you are following this guide, you can say “one” to go back to the access settings menu.
Say “Show me what to say” For a detailed list of things you can do. You can Use orders such as “swipe down” or “moving down” Scroll through pages. Just remember that the “swipe -up” will scroll down and the “swipe down” will scroll. The system will also continue to recognize your touch input.
When a call comes, read the number with the answer option. From the lock screen, this was the “five” number in my experience. When my phone was open, the call number was “six”, while “five” would deny it.
Sound control is not perfect
As you can see from this seventh stage, the sound control is complicated. Looking at the labels, you will need to stay in your screen view, and saying the wrong number can cause you to crack a call from the accident. You can “Show the name” to show the words Instead of numbers in the labels, but know that in this case you will need to add “tape” to suppress each label. This means that when the call comes, you can meet the “tape answer” or the label you want.
I would like to point out that numerical labels do not appear permanently in all apps (search bar in the upper part of the chats in WhatsApp, for example, is not associated with it in my experience). Occasionally, the names are also selected in the labels, as the word attached to my widget for my self -care app was just “icon”. It also takes time to get acquainted with sound control and learn all available steps.
I also found this system slow, and sometimes it was delayed significantly before registering and performing the command like “swipe left”. On my first attempt, I thought my iPhone did not hear me and repeated the instruction, just instead of swipe on two pages instead. I’m using an iPhone 16 Pro, which is Apple’s latest flag, so it’s not like I’m on an old, slow device.
Although we were able to get a semi -effective way with sound control work, it didn’t really solve the problem of my friend’s neighbor.
How to respond or reject calls with Siri
In researching this guide, I have noticed that there is a way to respond to calls with Siri or there was always one that I lost in August 2024. Regardless of, I was able to test it in some different scenarios today and when it is definitely easier, it is not without its limits.
Go to Siri Settings In your phone you can find “Siri” in your settings app or just scroll until you see “Siri” or “Apple Intelligence and Siri”.
Set up to ensure Allow your iPhone to listen to “Siri” or “Hey Siri”. Is on. If you are running the latest version of iOS on iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 16 or iPhone 16 Pro, it will be Talk and type from Siri > “Hey Siri” Or “Siri” or “Hey Siri” (Unless you are given priority, unless it’s “off”). On the old iPhones or iOS version, it will be Talk to Siri > “Hey Siri” Or “Siri” or “Hey Siri”
“Call Hang Up” on If you want to end the call with a voice command during the conversation. Otherwise, you have to wait for the second party to be executed. Note: Call hang up only works on phone and facetime calls, not through a third party apps like WhatsApp or Telegram.
When a call comes, “Siri, Answer” or “Hey Siri, Answer” say. To accept. Say “Siri, reject the call” to reject it. In my testing, “Siri, Fall” did not work, but “Siri, calling the call”.
I was able to use this procedure not only via phone or fee time to respond to calls, but also through third party apps. I activated the “declaration of calls”, “instead of” always “instead of just when headphones or carpacles were connected. But I never saw nor heard the warnings when a call came, besides the original ring. Is
Tech has improved access to access, but even needed to be better
Sadly, the neighbor had died before we were able to resolve the issue. Although I was unable to solve the problem, I am presenting the limited guidance that I have been able to set up here in the hope that it can be useful to anyone in a similar situation.
I have not yet properly examined the offerings on Android, but there are sound access to the calls to come to this platform and have to remain active during calls, indicating that there are options for using the sound command.
The challenges of my friend’s neighbor have been shared by countless people who are still struggling with consumer technology tools that rarely meet their needs – whether they are temporary limits from the injured or the long -term issues as a result of disability or age. Sound -based interactions that are to help people with physical disabilities need to better recognize the barriers to speech, and both Google and Apple, with other major tech companies, have taken steps to make better models in these matters.
Our frustration with sound control felt more timely this week, which marked the 14th annual global consciousness day (the third Thursday of every May). We saw Apple and Google announcing leisure features, while companies like Amazon, Netflix and Microsoft remind us of the recently released auxiliary tools.
It is a pleasure to look at the growing growth in a comprehensive tech, but it is also worth noting that some of these “solutions” are complete and useful. Many of us will either need some form of auxiliary technology or who knows what he does and will. Despite the continuous improvement, there is still much to be done to ensure tech.
