Last year, I wrote about the five features for the future for your first or next EV purchase, and eventually, an EV started in the United States that came close to meeting most of my needs. It is not made by Tesla, Raven, or Loside, and the best of all – it is reasonably affordable and performance or driving dynamics, two additional sales points that are really important to me.

To recover, here are the five things I am looking for:

    • A real world limit of more than 275 miles
    • Access and charging rate is above 200 kW
    • A software defined vehicle
    • Level 2+ Adas
    • Sold directly from consumers

Look, Volvo EX30, a compact all -electric SUV, which starts from 46,195, provides up to 253 miles, and sprints up to 60mph in just 3.4 seconds. If it seems to be familiar with Volvo, the reason is that we have already covered it on the tacker, but from a European and Australian point of view. Eagle -eyed readers may have noticed that I have chosen twice, not once, not once, but twice, as the most expected EV, for 2024 and 2025.

So, why did it take so much time to reach EX30 to our beaches? However, the car was launched in Europe in December 2023. Vehicles made in China were delayed due to the US government’s rates. Look, Volvo is owned by Galley, a Chinese auto manufacturer who is also the parents of Zakor, Pool Star and Lotus, who, along with Bai and Nine, make the most compelling EV in the world today.

Since the EX30 was being manufactured in China, Volvo had to delay the launch in North America for more than a year and some EX30 production had to move Belgium. Even after the American showrooms began to appear in the American showrooms earlier this year, it was difficult for both consumers and the media, it was difficult to come through. Thankfully, Volvo Canada let me take a press car in Vancouver, BC for a week, so I can share my experience with EX30.

Nevertheless, here in North America, we have different tastes, roads, expectations and travel distances that are meant to deal with their European and Australian counterparts. I traveled EX30 around the city and seattle and back, about 300 300 miles away.

Obviously, it’s a source, but I think EX30 is very attractive for a compact SUV. Volvo’s Scandinavian design chips are in full display, ranging from a total proportion to clean lines. The exterior of the EX30 looks better and polished than every angle, and it includes most familiar design elements of the Volvo, including the hammer headlights, clam shell hood, black door handles, black roof line, and two pieces of tail light.

This is not a big car (166.7 inches long, 104.3 inch wheel base), but since it is an EV, you get a flat floor and coffee space (41.9/32.3 inch league room front/reader, 27.8/12.4 k. FT. I was able to throw two mountain bikes (with the wheels in front of them) after folding the back seats, after I put down the seats behind. There is even a Frank (front trunk), though it is disappointing (0.2 cubic. Fit).

Volvo’s Swedish design capability continues. The interior of EX30 is minimal, without any sterile, without any germs. And unlike Tesla, Volvo’s minimum approach does not sacrifice materials and does not build quality-here, we are seeing you, Pre-Face Lift Model 3 and Model Wi. While the EX30 follows in the footsteps of Tesla through a single, center -mounted touch screen, Volvo still contains turn signals and gear selection poles.

As the owner of the former (twice) Model 3, I am accustomed to not displaying the device, and it does not bother me. Most drivers adopt it quickly, and if it helps keep the Volvo to EX30, I’m fully on the board. With a lack of physical control, the mainly riding glove box (smart!), And the best sounding Herman card riding under the windshield, replaces many individual speakers throughout the car.

The only interior of the EX30 is the wrong PAS that instead of having four individual window switches for the driver like most vehicles, it has only two window switches that have to togel the same button as well as between the front windows. This is something that also contributes to Volvo Ex90, Pool Star 3, Vox Wagon ID.4, and VW ID.Buzz. Let’s hope that this is not a trend, as it is very disturbing and unnecessary.

    The limit of real world

Does EX30 meet my first need-a real world limit is more than 275 miles? Not enough. EPA limit 253 miles – about 210 miles – well but not surprising. On my drive between Vancouver, BC and Seattle, I had to charge (20 to 80 %) on each way. Then once again, the 64 kW battery is smaller than many other EVs that offer such a range, making EX30 a reasonable light (4,151 pounds) to a reasonable lighter for all electric SUVs.

    Score: 6/10

    The speed of charging

The next feature in my list is access and charging rate above 200 kW. Although the EX30 Tesla’s charging network supports the NACS with the CCS adapter, it is at a peak of about 153 kW, which is decent, but not very good. In my two aforementioned supercharger charging session (20-80 %), the battery took about 40 minutes, despite the battery advance-which is in a slow side for modern EV.

    Score: 6/10

    Software and tech

EX30 is a complete software defined vehicle (SDV), so it meets my third requirement. There are very few EVs full SDV available in the United States today. Only Tesla and Raven’s vehicles fit on this bill. Most Chinese EVs are also SDVs, and since Volvo is owned by Chinese Automotive Dev (along with Polystar), EX30 is a suitable SDV. Basically, this means that all car software can be updated on air (OTA).

SDV is designed from the ground around the software experience, which has less, more powerful computers to control different areas (or zones) in the vehicle. This means that SDV can get new features and get bug fixes on a regular basis for users who go to a service center. Thus, EX30 is one of the few EVs I have run (along with Revenue General 2 vehicles) that produces Tesla’s wonderful user experience.

EX30’s infotation system is available in Volvo EX90 and Pool Star 3, but with a small display. It includes a Qualcomm Snapdragon cockpit -powered system, which is running a portrait touch screen in a 12.3 -inch center, with Google Built -in running with them. The consequences of infection are clean, easy, accountable and extremely intuitive. In other words, it is a real pleasure to use the EX30 software.

Adas, and self -parking.

Although my experience with the EX30 was mostly positive, I went to several bugs, and decided from various online forums, I’m not alone. For example, my press car struggled to keep a steady temperature inside the cabin despite being set on an auto. Therefore, at any time, it was either a little warm or very cold. Also, I was unable to test Volvo’s EX30 phone app because I couldn’t add the vehicle to my account.

    Score: 8/10

    Adas and driving

My next feature is 2+ ADAS (modern driver’s relief system). This enables the basic “self -driving” on highways and freeways as long as you keep an eye on the wheel and hands on the wheel. Volvo has helped the IT pilot, and while it is not available on the EX30 base “Plus” trim, it is standard at my press car’s “Ultra” trim (, 47,895).

The pilot assisted well and automatically supports lane changes, which makes the system level 2+. As far as the rest of the driving experience is concerned, the EX30 is fast (422 HP, 0-60 miles per hour) and fun in driving. The ride is calm and comfortable but strong enough to feel the sports, and the handling is sharp, which has strong physical control. As most modern vehicles, steering does not provide more feedback, but it is quite quick to engage.

The EX30 does a good job that blends the reproductive and friction brake, but when lifting the accelerator, a pedal driving can benefit from a strong region. In addition, there is currently a bug where charging from EX30 to 100 to disables a pedal driving (whether it is worth in settings) unless you soften the car. Thankfully, like the other insects I mentioned earlier, it can be easily fixed with the OTA software update.

Something else that can use tuning is to move gears between drive and reverse. Most EVs allow you to change gears, even if the vehicle is now rotating a bit, because going backwards is just the electric motor in the other direction. But with EX30, you should come to the full stop before you switch gears between D and R. This slows down parking plans, and can also be dangerous.

As you expect from a Volvo, the EX30 packs a comprehensive suit of safety and driver aid features, which includes driver alert monitoring, blind spot monitoring, lane departure warning, Lane Caping Assist, Front and Rear Cross Traffic Assist, more than a lot of automobiles, a lot of automobiles.

    Score: 8/10

    Purchase options

    Fig. 1 out of 1

(Image Credit: Mary Junior)(Image Credit: Mary Junior)

Unfortunately, the EX30 does not meet my fifth requirement-directly sold from the users. Volvo uses the traditional dealer network to sell its vehicles, which includes all the defects. On the Plus side, it seems that most Volvo dealers in the United States do not mark their cars. In Canada, Volvo’s promise for EVS “guarantees a straightforward and transparent purchase experience that is free from communication, both online and the store”.

    Score: 4/10

    My techway

Of course, Volvo EX30 is a wonderful EV. I like the clean outdoor and minor interior design, as well as it is small and light (for an electric SUV) still doesn’t feel tight. The EX30 software and tech package draws closer to the experience presented by my former model 3, compared to which I have yet to run. Wulvo level 2+ ADAS is competitive, and does not compromise with EX30 performance or driving.

Regardless, there is still room for improvement. The 253 mile EPA range and 153 kW charging rate are well rotated, and Volvo does not sell directly to consumers, which is unfortunate. I am a tech lover’s early adoption, and I have no objection to being a beta tester occasionally, but the EX30 suffers more worms than I am comfortable. And while these issues can be resolved with OTA software updates, they do not make the first impression.

Nevertheless, if you are leaving Tesla and craving a reasonably affordable EV with a similar user experience, Volvo EX30 may be your ticket.
