This week, I had the opportunity to spend a few days at the new Sony Wh-1000xm6 over-ear-making noise headphones. I’ve been a hobby of the series since WH -000xm2 and have been shaking the XM5s for the past two years. I got a very satisfactory upgrade from XM4s to XM5s – light blood, improvement of noise cancellation, and better microphone made a significant difference. That’s why I am glad that Sony is stuck with similar design this year.
Sony also brought something back from past models – flexibility. The WH -000xm6 has foldable hugs and are more fit in the compact case. This is a practical upgrade for people who travel with their headphones and want to keep them safe. This case itself is easier than the burden zipper in the XM5 case of sleek, compact and strangely. Inside, the standard is 3.5 mm to 3.5 mm cable and a short USB cable to charge.

The headphone is slightly heavier than the XM5s (246 grams) but still lighter than XM4S (251.6 grams). The design and material is like WH -000xm5. Sony chose to turn the power button into a round, so it is difficult to make an error in the next rectangular noise for cancellation/acne format button. There is no change in touch control from previous models.

Listening experience is excellent. Sony upgrades the noise processor, and the active noise cancellation (ANC) is once again included in the industry. For most users, though, the ANC will look like XM5s. Improvement is not as important as the jump from XM4s to XM5s. The music listening experience is similar to the previous model. Sony’s Sound Connective app offers a equation and friendly “Find your Equipment” Wisdom to configure the customs sound to enjoy everyone.

Sony also includes the “listening mode” feature in the sound connect app, which is known for WH -000xm6. You can choose between “standard”, “background music”, and “cinema”. The “background music” adjusts the voice for remote environments, such as a living room or cafe. “Cinema” should be used for video content and imitates the film theater environment, which has been enabled by Sony’s 360 reality audio opmix technology. This feature will not be everyone’s tea cup, but I am sure it can be helpful for people who work with headphones and they will love a quiet environment or a keen movie.
The quality of the microphone and call has generally been my biggest pet offer in the WH -000xm series. Since I use headphones daily, I make many phone calls while wearing them. On the other side of the calls, people have complained for years that it is difficult for me to hear in a noisy environment. With WH-1000xm5, Sony finally improved the microphone setup, which includes eight microphone array and AI noise rejection algorithm. Even despite the upgraded setup, the microphone still left a lot to be used when used in a noise environment, such as a busy street. Early microphone testing on WH -000xm6 shows similar results, though further testing is needed.
Yet with them just a few days, I am sure that Sony is in the best choice of WH -000xm6 ANC Over Air Headphone. They are lightweight and compact, which offer the best noise for music and audio quality. However, the budget-aware buyers can be better than choosing the old WH000xm5 model. In my opinion, anyone who uses the WH000xm4 or older model will be upgraded and the money will be worth the money.
