As you probably know, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge was not completely dropped on us. Yes, the phone is “officially” this month, but was returned in January, at the very end of the Packed event for the Mainline Galaxy S25 phones.

He popped up like a miracle post credit scene for a few seconds. Someone can also say that it reminds an apple “one more thing …” reminds the moment we have not been able to find in a while. All around, it was an event of an old memory. And maybe, it was the old memories that forced me to think about the whole “Edge” branding and where it could be.

Look, some of you may not remember, but Edge stood for something different from “Galaxy S25+”. So, let’s take a look at the past of pink color for a second:

A short tutorial of date: Samsung Galaxy Note Edge

Like the present Galaxy S25 EdgeIn September 2014, the OG Samsung Galaxy Note Edge did not leave anywhere on the way to the Samsung event without Samsung.

Galaxy Note Edge vs. Galaxy Note 4 – This future looks like this!

Look, the incident itself was about the Galaxy Note 4. And when we heard many rumors about Samsung’s experience with the curved screen, the rumor did not prepare us after that – the Galaxy Note Edge, which was a note 4, but deep in the phone frame on the right side of the screen. It is still not understood how Samsung succeeded in keeping it confidential.

Therefore, it was our first look at the future smartphone design with a screen that depends on the edges. However, nowadays, I will also call it a “retro photochustic”, as the market has rejected apparently curved screens. Samsung turned away from them, and whoever is doing them is making sure that at the end of the screen, the curved letters are very tight.

And I think this was a great opportunity. After the Galaxy Note Edge, every curved phone “made the wrong way” to the curved screen. This was done for most of the eyes, and not really for a better user experience.

The Galaxy S6 Edge was the most beautiful Samsung phone ever. But Edge Panel was not useful – note that it fade the whole screen

Look, the way the note Edge did, his curve was so prominent and so deep towards the phone’s frame that it had enough space to fit an extra task bar with icons. Yes, we had a kind of experience of the task bar before today’s folding phone made it a thing. It was my first experience to do true multi -task on the smartphone, as you can call any app from the side task bar. You didn’t have to go to the apps carousel or see your home screen.

    Curved with the purpose

It can also contain special strip -shaped widgets like a ruler, popular tweets, email notifications, or stock information.

Yes, the Edge Panel is intact today – it’s Samsung on the phone, and it has been copied by some manufacturers for their own phones. It is usually a small, semi -transparent handle on the edge of the screen, which you can “pull” in the inside to expand the app in the drawer or widget.

However, this is not the same. Imagine that those wages are living permanently on the side of their screen instead of calling each time – this was the Galaxy Note Edge.

Instead of developing this “gumky aspect” of curved screen design, Samsung chose to go to the “mainstream” with the next dual privileged Galaxy S6 Edge, which contained athletes and had no room for special widgets. All this was to look.

Why didn’t people like Edge screens?

    Peak… Samsung… Design

Edge screens look cool, I think everyone agrees with it, but their inequality was their fall. For one, a large mausoleum starts cutting the on -screen content, and no one wants to watch a semi -privileged video or play a game that rotates towards the phone frame, okay?

So, Samsung pushed the curve closer to the bezles. As a result, the color of the image was created at the end of the color, as you were technically seeing OLED Pixels “at an angle” – since the screen is far from the screen.

Then, the fact is that it was very difficult for any of them to find and install the appropriate screen guards.

Therefore, consumers continue to complain, and remove the Samsung curve, until it is completely eliminated from the Galaxy S24 ultra.

In an alternative universe, Edge still means “one side of the phone is a second screen”

When I first heard Galaxy S25 Edge Branding, I really thought “Wait, are they just forming a separate curved screen for us for the Gaxes? Oh no, it’s just a thin phone”. It is cool – where once the Galaxy note is left, trying to lift from the edge of the Galaxy note, prepare the side widgets and interactions, okay?

But not. Instead, Samsung is taking the name of the edge and putting it on something irrelevant – now it means “thin”. UP, I think.

It reminds how Apple’s iPad Air is nothing nowadays but this is the iPad Pro that should be named Air, but I dig. I think the “air” branding is now a bit stained, and the rumor’s “super thin” iPhone can be named something else.

#Notmyege gang, where are you? Do you want Samsung a proper knife on the concept that will give up it once?
