Microsoft has yet made the most iPad -like hybrid tablet, but the company had to compromise enough to get there. Rotating in 1.5 pounds, it weighs like a 12.9 -inch iPad Pro, and its 7.8 mm thickness also makes it the thinner surface ever. But it is also running a slow processor than last year’s 13 -inch -level pro, and is trapped with a much worse screen. Its keyboard, which is once again sold for $ 149, is also not an angle for aerganomic typing.

So was it all worth more compact $ 800 level supporters? It depends on what you are looking for. If you are hinker for an incredibly light windows tablet that can occasionally turn into a cute 12 -inch laptop, surface pro is a success. Just don’t expect too much. Like most asus Zenbook A14, its weight and thin are noteworthy, yet it is still full of compromises.

What is new in a 12 -inch level supporter

The surface pro 12 inches is mainly a shrinking version of the 13 -inch model: it is half pound light and 1.5 mm thin. Therefore, compare the iPad. In your hands it feels very much like a real pill, while back -level devices have always felt a bit dirty, as if they were laptops that were trapped in a sly -shaped case (which were, confessed, they were).

The eight core of Qualcomm Snapdragon X Plus is the biggest stimulus behind this design. As a low -power arm chip, it allowed Microsoft to make more compact tablets instead of sticking to its old matters, which had to support hot intelligence chips. Even a 13 -inch -level supporter of the previous year, which was well -strengthened by Qualcomm hardware (10 -core Snapdragon X Plus and 12 Core X Elite), was not a huge departure from the first Intel models.

Like MacBook Air, Surface Pro is less than 12 -inch fans, if you are working in a warm environment, this can be a problem. Certainly, it also means that the device is completely silent, but honestly I have not had many problems with the noise of fans in other modern ultravioletables. It mainly becomes a problem in the gaming system and high -end work stations, but those devices also run warm, so the noise of the fans is inevitable.

    Level Pro 12 inches

Since its purpose was to make the 12 -inch surface smaller and cheap, Microsoft also lowered its screen slightly. There is no OLED option here as with a 13 -inch level supporter, and its LCD is high on 90hz refresh rate instead of 120Hz. This resolution has also been reduced by 2,196 to 1,464 (3.2 million pixels, 220 pixels per inch), which is far from 2,880 to 1,920 (5.5 million pixels, 267ppi) on the larger model. Although the smaller level pro screen is not as fast as the iPad Pro and the 264 ppi retina display on the iPad Air, it does not look like a cheap LCD. Color pop, and it is still bright in the sun. But this is not ideal if you are doing serious pictures or video editing, for its size and its merely appropriate resolution.

Another amazing step down? This level supporter does not have a charging port associated with the magnetic level. Instead, you have to charge one of its two USB-C ports. Oh, and talking about charging, Microsoft only includes a USB-C cable in the box-you have to provide your AC adapter. You can pick up a 45W level charger at $ 70, but I would instead recommend seeing one of the many cheap and more powerful offerings in our fast charging guide.

Last, but at least, Microsoft also designed the Pro Keyboard at a 12 -inch level. Although it should only be bundled with a level supporter (which is going to buy it without a keyboard ?!), Microsoft has once again said that it is offering “selection” to consumers by paying an additional $ 150 of this accessories.

Obviously, the company wants to market a $ 800 -level supporter, which would be impossible if the keyboard was really bunded. But this is still a fraudulent process through Microsoft, which is naturally anti -user and eventually hurts the level of lineup. This would be another story if other companies were creating their own keyboards that could be trapped at the surface – Microsoft will not comment when I asked if this was a possibility.

In use: a cute surface for the main things

The 12 -inch -level supporter saw me in a 13 -inch model driven by Snapdragon X Ultra. And he certainly didn’t blow my brain like the Apple M1 -powered MacBook Pro. Instead, the smallest level is just … okay. It handled my distinctive workflow – some dozen browser tabs, Avernot, Spatif and Light Image Editing – without any problem. But I can tell from his benchmarking performance that I can’t really put much pressure on it.

In fact, though, slow performance has always hit a 12 -inch laptop like Apple’s last MacBook. You are not buying a small laptop for speed, you are buying it because it is beautiful and super portable. And in this regard, a 12 -inch level supporter succeeds. With 0.3 pound surface keyboard, the entire surface pro package weighs 1.8 pounds. It is still 0.2 pounds less than a 13 -inch level supporter, without the keyboard! No need to say, it was easy to throw a 12 -inch level pro in my messenger bag to work around the city. After a while, I had completely forgotten that I was carrying it.

And when I didn’t expect more than the new surface keyboard, I realized that it was a pleasant and accountable to type. I was afraid that the keys would feel tight more than the 13 -inch model, but my fingers could not make much difference. I definitely remember being a big trackpad, but the 12 -inch board is still smooth and correct. If you want a little stylus action, you can also snatch a slim pen of $ 130, which magnetically climbs to the upper part of the tablet. I personally loved the tablet styls, but the surface pen worked fine for dodling and handwritten notes on a 12 -inch -level supporter.

As a standstone tablet, the surface supporter is once again, but it is holding small touch targets of Windows and generally inaccessibility to slates. This is not a tablet that I will accidentally browse like a member, instead I usually use the surface pro in the laptop form and then eliminate the keyboard to read long articles.

Return to these standards: Most like Zen Bok A14, which practically photographed surface results, a 12 -inch tablet is a real lightweight. But at least it is slightly cheaper than A14, even adding extra -level keyboard. The two systems scored the same on the Gack Bench 6 CPUs and GPU tests, though the surface Pro was slightly faster for single thread performance. He is also a faulty 3D actor, some of the lowest 3D Mark Wildlife scores that we have seen in the years.

Given its size and weak hardware, I don’t think anyone will expect gaming for a 12 -inch -level supporter. Cloud streaming would be the best option for such a system – I was able to launch Halo unlimited About 15 seconds run through the Xbox app, and the campaign on Wi -Fi easily operates with no hiccups. You can find a handful of light games that work on the level supporter, but because of its arm architecture, popular titles such as Foretenite And Over Watch 2 Will not launch. (It is not that I expected that they too would perform very well.)

Unfortunately, when I was trying to test the Surface Pro battery in PC Mark 10, I kept running in strange software errors. I will continue to try to complete this test, but now I can say that its battery has reached 53 % after an eight -hour bench marking. As far as real -world performance is concerned, after that I used for about 30 % of the battery life after using for the entire working day. Microsoft claims that the pro should continue at a 12 -inch level for 16 hours. In our testing, the 13 -inch model went for 12 hours and 15 minutes in PC Mark 10.

Should you buy a 12 -inch level supporter?

A 12 -inch level supporter is something you buy from your heart, not your brain. I can tell you that a 13 -inch level supporter is very fast and more capable of computer. I can tell you that a large level is a theft while it sells at $ 800 on Best Bye, which is $ 200 less than its normal price. But none of this really doesn’t matter if you just want a beautiful Windows PC that you can take anywhere.

However, I would not accuse you of confusing Microsoft’s pricing strategy. The company recently removed its cheapest 13 -inch -level profession from its online store, which led to the report that the company had increased the level of levels. For now, we are in a strange situation where both 12 inches and 13 -inch models are selling at $ 800.

A result of all of them? Microsoft is probably selling its current 13 -inch models through stock, so eventually your cheapest option is 4,400 (which is currently sold at 0,030).

    Wrap

The surface supporter is light, thin and will maintain most of your basic productive tasks. It is also incredibly cute, so much so that you probably have no objection that it has a sub -cross -performance and low screen from a 13 -inch model. Microsoft has finally designed a level PC that really feels like a member, and for some people, this is just a reason to buy it.
