Huawei’s latest foldable is here – meet the Mate X7. It brings some notable upgrades over its predecessor, including updated IP58 and IP59 ingress protection, Huawei’s latest Kirin 9030 Pro chipset, a new telephoto camera and a slightly larger battery.

    Huawei Mate X7

While the Mate X6 was already a thin and light device, Huawei managed to shave some size off the X7, which now measures 9.5mm in its folded state and has a 4.5mm opening. At 235 grams, the X7 is 4 grams lighter than its predecessor while still retaining its strong aluminum frame.

IP58 and IP59 ratings mean the Companion X7 is dust-proof and water-resistant against sprays and even close-range high-pressure water jets.

In terms of cameras, you get the same 50MP main camera from last year with an RIB sensor, 10-stop physical variable aperture (f/1.4-4.0), and OIS. The telephoto sensor has now been updated to a 50MP sensor with a wider f/2.2 aperture and 3.5x optical zoom. The third shooter on the back is a 40MP ultrawide. You also get two 8MP selfie cameras – one on the cover screen and one on the inner screen.

The Mate X7 brings IP59 rating, large battery and Kirin 9030 Pro chipset

The Mate X7 is equipped with Huawei’s top-of-the-line Kirin 9030 Pro chipset, just like the recently announced Mate 80 Pro and Mate 80 Pro Max. Although we don’t have its detailed specs yet, the new Sock is said to feature a nine-core ARMV8 architecture with a prime core clocked at 2.75GHz, 4x performance cores @ 2.27GHz and 4x performance cores @ 1.72GHz. It is paired with 12/16GB of RAM and up to 1TB of storage.

The Mate X7 packs a dual-cell CCC battery with a combined capacity of 5,600mAh. It supports 66W wired and 50W wireless charging. The device will boot Harmonios out of the box and includes satellite connectivity.
