Powerwa Wired Earbuds for Nintendo Switch 2: One Minute Review

The Powerwa Wired Earbuds for Nintendo Switch 2 are an easy and effective way to enjoy handheld gaming sessions in isolation. These buds are licensed by Nintendo and aim to deliver dynamic sound, ergonomic comfort, and clear mic quality. And they largely deliver, though there are some notable flaws to uncover.

For wired buds whose usually. Costing 24.99 / £19.99 / au$39, and regularly dropping to a fairly low price, I wasn’t expecting too much from the Powerwa Wired Earbuds for Nintendo Switch 2. And while they don’t do anything special, they still have all the basic skills needed for solid-sounding experiences.

For example, they offer a quality of clear dialogue. When playing through awesome Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remakethe speech-heavy scenes never seemed muddled or confusing, even when the game’s imposing orchestral soundtrack entered the fray.

You’re not going to experience beautifully separated sounds or wide-open sound, but for the price, you still get the clear sound quality to enjoy the best Nintendo Switch 2 games or beautiful soundtracks in a game.

The simple mic mute slider is very handy if you’re using game chat via Nintendo Switch Online. Just flick it on and your friends won’t be able to hear anything you say.

However, I would have liked the built-in mic to be a little better, as I can use it to create a stable background. Don’t get me wrong, my words were still easily understandable when doing standard tests – just don’t expect more than average MIC performance.

These wired earbuds don’t seem too flashy. They’re black and red—much like the Joy-Con 2 controller—and come with a handy carry case. The build quality of these buds is pretty average as they are made of plastic, but that’s okay considering their very budget-friendly cost. And in fairness, I still found them quite comfortable, which isn’t always the case for me when looking for the best wired earbuds.

So, at the end of it all, would I recommend the Powerwa Wired Earbuds for Nintendo Switch 2? Well, it would depend. I’ve seen them drop to as low as £11 in the UK, so if you’re on a tight budget, they’ll give you decent overall audio with equally decent comfort and a neat carry case. However, there are some notable drawbacks, such as the poor mic and basic build.

If you’ve got a little more cash to play with, I’d probably check out some of the more premium wired earbuds, or even the headset from our Nintendo Switch 2 accessories guide. But for low-cost buds that get the job done, these Nintendo-licensed consoles are still worth a look.

Powerwa Wired Earbuds 2 for Nintendo Switch Review: Price and Release Date

    • Ultra budget list price $24.99 / £19.99 / au$39
    • And I’ve already seen them go less and less
    • Launched in October 2025

These wired earbuds launched shortly after the Nintendo Switch 2, and have a list price of $24.99 / £19.99 / au$39. However, I’ve already seen them on sale in some areas, dipping as low as $11 in the UK. It should be noted that any 3.5mm, USB-C, or Bluetooth earbuds should work fine with your console—it’s just the inclusion of a mute mic slider that makes it ideal for in-game chat use. Powera’s wired buds are available in the same black and red design—the same color scheme as the right Joy-Con 2 controller.

Powerwa Wired Earbuds 2 for Nintendo Switch Review: Design and Features

    • Simple but quite effective design
    • Easy mic mute slider
    • Secure and relatively comfortable fit

In terms of design, these are basic in-ears. They’re black and red, which is on-brand for the Switch 2, and they have the console’s logo on the outside of each key.

They’re made of plastic and, honestly, feel pretty cheap — but then, they are. You get a variety of ear tips to help you find your ideal fit, as well as a drawstring bag to store the buds—a very nice inclusion considering their moderate price.

These earbuds are quite comfortable, although I found them to be in one big ear. Still, I could keep them on for well over an hour without feeling tired, and they have a very secure fit—something that wired-in ones aren’t always guaranteed.

Thanks to their secure seal, you also get plenty of noise isolation—just don’t expect the muted noise-cancelling effects or passive isolation that prier foam in-ears provide.

The most important feature on board is the inbuilt mic and mute slider. This handy slider is what sets the buttons apart from the usual wired buttons you have laying around, making them ideal for using in-game chat on the Switch 2. The mic itself is functional but, as you might expect at this price, nothing particularly special. More on this in the performance section…

Powerwa Wired Earbuds 2 for Nintendo Switch review: Performance

    • Decent audio with fairly clear dialogue
    • MIC performance can definitely be improved
    • Solid overall quality given the modest price tag

Speaking of which, I won’t pretend the Powerwa Wired Earbuds are anything particularly special. But they get the basics right with generally clear audio for private gaming sessions.

To find out if Powera’s in-ears can compete with some of the best gaming earbuds out there, the best Nintendo Switch 2 accessories, I made sure to test them with a variety of games. I started with Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remakea title I’ve been absolutely glued to since its release.

The game is very dialogue heavy, so I was happy to find that the speech was generally well articulated in the mix, ensuring that I didn’t have to rely on subtitles. As the grand orchestral soundtrack backdropped, the voices swooped through Still To be clear – sure, it wasn’t as if they were gracefully separated and pushed forward, but that’s something I’ve come to expect from more premium buds.

I wanted to see how they would stack up against the more chaotic Nintendo Switch 2 titles, so I switched over. Mario Kart Worldand once again, I was quite satisfied with the audio on offer. In free spin mode, the guts of my car’s engine was replicated with solid low-end power, and during high-end grinding of my wheels, drifting wasn’t tinny or uncontrollable.

Treble can be sharper at higher volumes – something I noticed when listening too Phendrana is flowing on the Nintendo Music app. But if you’re listening at mid-highs or lower, it shouldn’t be all that obvious. In general, soundtracks come out well using power keys. Mario Kart World The mids were always pleasant, with a clean sound and never overpowered by the fairly impressive bass.

Even if you’re not wowed by a wide soundstage or incredible separation, the Power’s wired buds performed quite well on the audio front. If you’re looking for a more premium listening experience or want exceptional wired earbuds for music, though, I’d suggest heading over to our best wired earbuds guide instead.

But what about mic performance? Well, this is where things get a little shaky. I used the test microphone function on my Switch 2, which allows you to make a short recording, and the results were as good as I expected. My voice was relatively clear, and every word was understandable. However, there was some notable storage, and the background was clearly stable.

Don’t get me wrong: These won’t make you sound like you’re underwater like some cheap buds do, but the mic quality is just acceptable. One benefit, though, is that there’s an inline controller with a slider to disable or enable the mic, which you need to quickly mute yourself using in-game chat.

    • Tested for a week
    • Used in the office, out and about and at home
    • Tried with Switch 2 games and Nintendo Music app

I tested the Powerwa Wired Earbuds for Nintendo Switch 2 over a week-long period, taking them out for gaming on the go as well as using them on lunch breaks at the office and while working from home.

To gauge performance, I made sure to use them with a range of Switch 2 games, including Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake And Mario Kart World. It also felt appropriate to use them with the Nintendo Music app and spin some classic soundtracks. When using an inline mic, I made sure I did a test using the Switch 2’s built-in testing software.
