Mashal Rehman / Android Authority
Last year, Google announced that it was accelerating the Android release schedule. In the past, Google usually prepared the same Android release every year with the new API for developers. However, in 2025, the company is going on two such releases annually: one important and one minor. We have already received this year’s big release with a stable Android 16 update in June, and the next Android 16 QPR2 update will be the first minor. There are some new features that we think will be released in Google Android 16 QPR2.

Android 16 QPR2 will allow AI agents to control other apps
In my Android 16 reviews, I highlighted a new API called app function. This allows the API developers to expose the key features of their app in front of the device’s default assistant, which can then perform these functions from the user. For example, a restaurant app can expose the ‘Order Food’ function, which can allow users to order with a voice command without opening the app.
I said the app functions API can convert Google Gemini into a real AI agent by enabled Google Gemini to take more action in third party apps. However, Google has been silent about this functionality, though API is available in Android 16.
The reason for this may be that currently there is no way to limit the ability to use API without fully disabling the assistant, which some users may have to suffer. Android 16 QPR2 can solve the problem by introducing a page that facilitate you to manage which assistant apps can take steps on you.
While digging during the latest Android Canary Release, I saw a new wire in the settings app for a page titled “Other Apps Agent Control”. This page is ready for Android’s privacy dashboard, but currently it is hidden. Another unused wire that I find that this page will allow you to control which assistant “can work on your device and other apps.”

The page itself does not open itself, as the Android System Authorization Controller tries to load blank activity in the app. This activity is active only when the device is running SDK version ’36 .1 ‘, which is compatible with Android 16 QPR2, confirming that the feature is for this release.

Android 16 QPR2 brings better parental control for separate or mixed families
The Internet is full of materials that are intoxicated or inappropriate for minors, which is why Android offers parents’ control. Through the Google Family Link, parents can handle apps and settings on their children’s devices from afar. However, there is a limit to this system: Many parents should be able to manage the same child’s device, all of them should be in the same Google Family group. This can cause a problem for separate or mixed families, as it forces parents to get their various Google apps and family payment methods. Google can solve this problem with the new “local surveillance” feature in Android 16 QPR2.
In the release of the first Android Canary, Google added a dedicated “.Parents’ control“Settings on the main screen of the app. The context of the context, these controls are currently located in digital welding settings in the stable version of Android 16. When we first tried to open this new page, we targeted an endless loading screen, which has not yet been attracted to this feature.
However, this shows that its feature is active, not just its setup page. If you first manually enable parent control during the first device’s setup or through the link at the bottom of the digital well -setting settings, the dedicated “parent control” page becomes accessible.

On the new “Parents’ Control” page, parents will find a familiar set of options. They can set a daily screen time limit, schedule a time -time that locks the apps but still allows calls, and apply time limits to specific apps. They can also togel the content filters in synchronized web browsers and search engines.

Although these settings are not new to parents who have used the Google Family link, but the control method. The key change is the ability to handle these settings directly using the pin set on a direct supervision device. When setting up parents’ control in Android 16 QPR2, you will be asked to make this pin and provide e -mail to recovery. This email can be used if you forget the pin or prevent the factory reset from removing the control.
Sorting a pin creates a new “monitoring” profile under the hood, which locks certain steps. This pin is then needed to change settings such as daily or specific limits related to the app, or completely disable parent control.

Earlier, changing these settings on the surveillance device needs to enter the parent’s Google account password. This system was not only painful but also limited. Because Google Family Groups can only have two parents, other reliable adults, such as a nanny or grandparents, cannot help handle a child’s device without giving a highly sensitive password.
On the other hand, sharing a pin is very easy and safe. Any trusted adult who has it can adjust the daily limit, app restrictions, time schedule, or content filters. Pin can be changed at any time if needed.
Although this new parent’s control tool is more flexible, it will not replace the Google Family link. The Family Link offers additional remote settings and monitoring features, so it will be a useful option for many parents.
We know that this feature is coming in Android 16 QPR2, thanks to the change of code, we have seen in the Chromium Jure. This change ‘includes separate gating mechanisms for on -device filters in Android 16.1+, which we can confirm that Android refers to 16 QPR2 for two reasons.
First, Google has already confirmed that Android 16 QPR2 will include a tump of SD from 36.0 to 36.1. Second, the code checks whether the blood version of a device starts with ‘BP41’. Since Android starts with 16 QPR1 ‘BP31′, it is a safe assumption that BP41 ′ Android will be used for 16 QPR2. The code also examines the large and minor OS version of ’16’ and ‘1’, respectively. If these conditions are met, the device is flagged as supporting ‘local monitoring’ features, which allow ‘non -signed’ in the Chrome to enable the web content filters in the Chrome.

Although the wear is based on OS Android, not every feature makes it on the smart watch platform. It also has utility on smart watches, however, this is why Google is working to implement it. We do not yet know whether Google will add it to the release of OS 6.1, or wait until OS 7.
Better support of UWB in Android 16 QPR2
Finally, we are expecting the Android 16 QPR2 to introduce support for the new version of Ultra Wide Band (UWB). Google changed a code submitted in February “adding flags for Geppery and UWB updates for 25 Q4.” Here, “Gripi” refers to the common API introduced in Android 16, while “25Q4” refers to the fourth quarter of 2025 – namely Android 16 QPR2.
Google Fira is preparing to upgrade Android’s UWB stack with the 3.0 core details features. This new speculation includes features such as hybrid UWB scheduling, which allow multiple UWB applications and features to run simultaneously. It also improves data transfer by allocating special airtime, promotes the quality and integrity of UWB pulses, and increases the protection of the physical layer of the protocol. This increase will enable more sophisticated use of UWB, such as public transport fares, contact lace payments, and logical access control.
These are all the features we know they are coming to Android 16 QPR2, or at least planned for this release. We have expected some changes to the Android Canary Release to go to QPR2, but we will certainly not know until Google has released the son. About …
When is the release date of Android 16 QPR2?
The stable version of Android 16 QPR2 should arrive at some time in December 2025, Google is currently targeting the December 2 release. However, the company has changed its release plans in the past, so don’t surprise if the date changes. The only thing we can reasonably believe is in early December, as it will be the fourth and final quarter of 2025 and the Android release.
