For most of Android’s history, Google referred to each release publicly through a version number and a code name. Traditionally, the code name was sweet like Marshlo, Jelly Bean, or Fruo. With the release of Android 10 in 2019, however, Google eliminated this public practice to make its branding more accessible globally. Internally, though, the company’s developers kept the sweet tradition alive. Following this tradition, Google’s developers have recently decided about the sweet code name for Android 17 – and none of you have guessed.

Google surprised many people last year by selecting “Baklava” as a sweet code name for Android 16. Since the code name for Android 15 was “Vanila Ice Cream”, most people expected the next version to follow the tradition of the alphabet with the dessert that began with the letter “W”.

Google broke the long sample this year to reflect major changes in its development methods under the new “trunk stable” plan. This project transmits Android Development into a trunk -based model, where all work is done in a single, important internal code branch that should always be stable. New features, APIs and Big Fixes have been developed behind the “feature flags” that keep them inactive until the launch read. On the contrary, Google had previously used a branch -based model, which often created important issues when integrating new release branches back into important.
The old branch -based development model of AndroidNew Android’s new, trunk -based development model.
The first Android version was Android 14 QPR2 released after Google completed its migration in trunk -based development. To mark this change, Google resets its blood ID scheme. Android 14 QPR2 and QPR3 construction IDs were presented with “AP1A” and “AP2A” respectively. The company used the “A” letter because it was the first year of 2024 when Google issued the trunk stable construction, while “P1A” and “P2A” have reflected that Android 14 QPR 2 and QPR 3 were the first and second platform release of the year, respectively. When the calendar was attracted to 2025, Google presented the letter in “B”, which is why Android 16’s code name was a dessert which began with B.
Following this approach, you may be right to guess that the sweet code of Android 17 will begin with the letter of “C”. The problem is a total number of sweeteners that start from C. We can immediately reject the “cup cake”, as Google has already used it for Android 1.5, but there are still dozens of choices. When we polled our readers on this topic, we gave eight famous powers, and they have seven more in the comments.
However, none of them was correct, why Google has decided “Become cinnamon“As a sweet code name for Android 17! A cinnamon is also called cinnamon-rolling or rotation-a sweet, baked pastry that is made of rolled flour filled with cinnamon-sugar mixture and is often the top with street or icing.

Although we have no public sources in which “Darin Bin” is mentioned as the code name of Android 17, we believe it is the name. A reliable source within Google is a shared evidence with us that clearly shows that the company uses “Darchen Bone” as the API level 37.0’s internal code name.
The API level is a number that uniquely identifies a specific Android version and its basic APIS set. Each Android version has a separate API level. For example, Android 15 API level is 35.0, and Android is 16 36.0. Therefore, we can assume that the API level will refer to 37.0 Android 17, unless Google suddenly decides to leave the number from its version – which is unlikely.
Finally, the sweet code name doesn’t matter. This will not appear in most Google marketing next year, though the company can still set up a new Android sculpture on its campus that cites it. In the initial beta release you will appear under the field of “Android Sanchin Bone” “Android version, but will be replaced with” Android 17 “after the OS platform stability reaches.
Still, we know that many of you are thinking of what Google has prepared for the sweet code name for Android 17, so we thought it would be a pleasure to show it in its opening edition Authority Visual Newsletter.
If you are wondering when Android 17 will launch, we expect it to go around June 2026. As we have said earlier, Google advanced the release date of Android 16 to enable Summer Device Launches to ship with the latest OS. There is no reason to think that Google will not remain on this high -speed schedule next year. Still, the projects can change, and if they do, I will report them to the future edition of this newsletter.
The amazing picture of the PS Cinnamon Bin surrounded by Android Pins was taken by my colleague Rita El Khuri, who went to the adventure a little to get it. After lifting it in the star box, he traveled with him on the train, crossed the highway, and rested on the fence before he received proper protection. When I asked him how he tasted his taste, he told me that he had “rush to sugar” after eating. Cinnamon Bin will do this to you.
