A few months ago I got my first look at the new 2026 BMW IX series. I need to run all of them, including the entry level model at X -drive 45, but went thinking that they were overwhelmed by my day -to -day driving.
Don’t misunderstand me, I am a fan of how BMW vehicles get fully strengths and features, such as the BMW I4 M50 Gran Cup in the last year, but it is certainly difficult to ignore their high sticker prices. The IX XDrive45 is certainly in the boat that starts $ 75,150.
That’s why I put the 2026 BMW IX XDrive45 into the test for a week to find out if it could change my emotions. Usually vehicles neglect performance in favor of other things in this price range, but I am surprised by the results. It has certainly moved the needle in the conversation of the best electric cars this year, which I have tested this year.

2026 BMW IX XDrive45: Test Summary
(Image Credit: Tom’s Guide / John Velasco)
Considering that 2026 BMW IX XDrive45 offers a sporty driving experience that emphasizes strength, I didn’t think it would be effective. However, I am wrong because it has exceeded my expectations.
After running a total of 339.9 miles during my week’s test, it achieved the average performance of 3.3 miles/kW. It is outstanding, as it defeats the same other, the Sporty All Electric EV, which I have tested like the Chevrolet Blazer SS and the Ekora ZDX Type, for a decent -sized cross -over SUV, I have to admit that I was not expecting this level performance.
In a long distance drive, X -drive 45 delivered 3.8 miles/kW performance. Once again, I didn’t think it was capable of reaching something like that because it is usually a small EV, such as Hyundai Kona Electric and Volvo EX30, which produces such results.
What is even more impressive is that the EPA estimate of the performance I received is more than 312 miles. Based on its 100.1 kW battery and 3.3 miles/kW average performance, this means that the XDrive45 can go above the range of 330 miles.
I am also happy with the XDrive45 level 1 charging at home. It provided an average rate of 3.82 miles/hour through a standard 120V. Basically, it added a 34 -mile range with 8.9 hours charging. This is more than enough for me and anyone is just getting his first EV, but I always recommend installing the Level 2 charger if your daily journey is far away.

2026 BMW IX XDrive45: What do I like
The sporty performance matches the calm ride
(Image Credit: Tom’s Guide / John Velasco)
Usually you have to be a little more careful to run the SUV, but it performs a lot like a two -door coup on steroids. 2026 BMW IX XDrive45 offers impressive strength that provides 402 HP performance from its dual electric motors.
Not only does it fly from the full stop to reach the speed of the ship, but also the X -drive 45 corners and curves almost almost also handles some sports EVs as I run like Dodge Charger EV.
Even despite all the strength and speed, it is silent from the inside with its extraordinary sound proof. I really like how this race can go from car performance to a very smooth and quiet ride for these long drives.
Fast Self -Parking
(Image Credit: Tom’s Guide / John Velasco)
Self -parking is nothing new with EV, but I often feel unexpected. Thankfully, BMW IX XDrive45 gives me confidence to give full control of the wheel to drive the vehicle in a place. While some cars take a long time to complete this task, XDrive45 took me to one place in less than 30 seconds.
In the upper part of the Auto Park Assist, the BMW IX XDrive45 can actually get out of a speed and automatically with its backup assistant – who remembers how it has pulled it into the parking lot and used it to leave it behind. I am impressed because she surrounded the XDrive45 out of my driveway, which is about 115 feet in length the length is to go on the road
High quality camera

Another reason I am confident of automatically parking is that it uses BMW EV. I test a lot of camera phones nearby and know how beneficial it is to have a wide dynamic range camera. XDrive45 occupies full details from all sides, and even more importantly, in the tough conditions of light, they offer a high dynamic limit to draw details.
That’s why I really like to activate the overheadview that shows the car and everything closely. Thanks to the arrest of this, I can see everything I need during the parking lot. All the guide letters on the camera view really help a lot.
Automatically change lane from the head indicator

Like my preview test drive, a feature that determines the 2026 BMW IX XDrive45, besides all other EVS, I have the ability to replace the lanes with head indications. The IX’s driving Assist Plus will check whether the lenses are clear on both sides when its adaptive cruise control system is enabled. When this happens, it will play a tone to indicate the option of changing the lane, which is done by moving my head to see the mirror on the same side.
It really works well, and I prefer the process over the super cruise control system I have tried like a Cadellic Optics with EV. BMW’s point of view is better because it gives me control over what I have to do instead of deciding for me. If you are not pleased with it, you can always start a change of lane by flickering the turn signal.

There is something about 2026 BMW IX XDrive45. It does not clearly eliminate the features because it has everything you want to win this price. For example, I really like Love how I can customize the headup display only to show more than navigation directions-like watching a small preview of the map.
There is also a panoramic sunflower, which features electrocomic glass to be transparent with a button press. It is like another EV in which it is, such as Raven R1s and Lexus RZ 450e.
I also need to identify the smartly -looking hard lights at night, when it opens it, X -drive 45 has a clean light -up continuity, and how the light is changed when you change these blind spots to better illuminate it.
2026 BMW IX XDrive45: What I don’t like
Cup holders are difficult to access
(Image Credit: Tom’s Guide / John Velasco)
In fact, the only thing I don’t like about 2026 BMW IX XDrive45 is the design of cup holders on the center console. Yes, it may be a minor problem for some people, but they are in a low position in the center console – which causes it to be accessed.
I just had to make my own drunk -drunk lesser because the cup holder’s position is low. The widespread tips are also tough to keep the bottle in the cup holder because the upper edge of the middle armistant sits directly on top of it.

After spending a week with 2026 BMW IX XDrive45, I have a better appreciation of his offer. Although it is based on BMW philosophy of sports driving experience and modern features, I am most impressed with how it does not ignore performance.
This is an important area for me because as a driver, you expect a vehicle to have a maximum limit with the entire battery. I thought that XDrive45 is just going to become a hungry all -power SUV of power, but it is very satisfying to know that it can also be effective. There is no other luxury EV that is similar to the combination of its performance, performance and features from afar.
