    • Microsoft has paid billions of underground fertilizers to cancel AI carbon emissions

    • Carbon offset prices may decrease, but now, each ton cost is close to $ 350

Microsoft is spending too much on the removal of carbon once again – but this time, the strategy is not based on future machinery or carbon scrubbing forests, but instead involves waste, especially human and animal emission, fertilizer and agricultural side production.

The company has signed a multi -year contract with deeply disposing of this organic content underground injections.

This method is designed to prevent carbon dioxide and methane from releasing carbon dioxide and methane in the environment.

According to Ink. , Watid Deep will handle 4.9 million metric tons of waste burial in the next 12 years.

Although the company allegedly receives $ 350 per tonne for carbon removal, CEO Julia Rachelstein made it clear, “The aforementioned price is not the actual amount paid by Tech Dev” and added that the cost is expected over time.

Nevertheless, if the price filed is correct, the contract can exceed $ 1.7 billion, but at this time, no exact data has been disclosed from any side.

The roots of rationality behind this procedure are to prevent the harmful effects of the current waste ways.

“Generally, what happens to these waste today is that they go to the landfill, they throw them into the waterway, or they only spread to the ground for the purpose of wasting.

“It is helpful in climate change. And then often, especially when it spreads to the earth, all those pathogens are going directly into the ground water of the people.”

The process of Watid Deep involves converting waste into dense dirt and then pumping more than 5000 feet to the surface.

This approach not only locks the content away from the atmosphere, but also ignores environmental risks associated with the surface waste.

This idea may be unconventional, but this scale fits a wider pattern of tech companies rotating for carbon offset strategies.

With other cloud giants such as Microsoft, Google and Amazon, data centers are facing environmental costs, facilities that often require energy input from fuel sources.

With AI’s workload accelerates this demand, the need to find a creative reduction solution has increased immediately.

Earlier in 2025, Microsoft also contributed with Atomoscler to separate 6.75 million metric tons of carbon dioxide, showing its consent to find various strategies.

It said, it is unclear how much the carbon offset procedures will be extended or sustainable in the long -term, especially if the costs are high and public comments are important.
