Google Photo is a photo backup backup app for everyone. It’s fast, reliable, and everyone has a Gmail account, so this is the most accessible app to back your family memories. It has a lot of smart features and does not use AI like any other photo app, almost its Magical AI editing to the easy thing to find natural language. It just works.

However, many things for Google Photo have weakened the case. For example, I have to deal with media compression to save space – otherwise, if I want to upload everything in full quality, I’m hitting the storage caps. Or even worse, I have to keep upgrading my subscription and just to pay more to Google every few months to keep my media safe in the original standard. My current plan will not last for months, and 2TB is not worth the fee despite me.

I will get my storage for the same price – and I don’t mean that the external hard drive that revolves around my computer.

Would you consider going from Google Photos?

No, never digg for Google photos

I already use a hybrid setup like Synology + Google Photos

I invested in a synology NAS a few years ago. Although it has smooth my digital life, my most valuable setup is the picture of Synology. It has changed how I and my family backed up their media and turned it into a unique system. I will tell you how I did it together and why this is probably a strategy for many domestic consumers who owns NAS.

For once, I don’t mind on the clone

We all know how good Google photos are. This is the standard of smart media management that all other apps should be explored. In addition to its AI Prox, it is also the easiest tool for the cross -platform joint albums. I have many of them with my family and friends, all of them treasure. Therefore, it was out of the question that I would dig the app completely, regardless of that I was on the platform. I want all the convenience, but I wanted something that didn’t picked me up in any way.

When I first got my reliable Synology DS920+, I played with many of its built -in features. What was standing was the snology drive and images – almost the exact copies of Google apps, as Synology is trying to familiarize things to replace people – if their names were not already dead.

There are many similarities with Google Photos in Science Photo, from general order to easily search facial tagging. You can create albums, share the media with your family, put them in your TV, add a widget that prevents your photos automatically and not. And the best part – you are not limited by cloud storage capping. The limit of the sky is (or the rest of the hard drive).

I will admit that Synology images are not yet the most intuitive app, so this is not something I want to use every day. It feels like a ‘device’ that you get out when needed – that’s why I need middle ground.

Why choose when you can go to hybrid?

I didn’t want to give up Google photos and was tested by the Freedom Sciences offered. So, I did what anyone will do – I added both in my setup. And now they work beautifully together.

Google Photos is my main app to access the media on my phone. It is fast, easy and always accessible. Most importantly, I do not miss the features of the thousand AI which Google has added. Whenever I need to see an old picture, I fire Google Photos, such as muscle memory – even on the iPhone. This is also my default for quick photo editing and album sharing.

Synology images are my baseless pit where I throw all my high -rank photos into flowering formats while all my 4K videos are crission.

Meanwhile, synology photos also get the same copies of my media – but in full quality. This is my baseless pit where I throw all my high -rank photos into flowering formats while all my 4K videos are crission. All of our phones and devices come back with zero problems with zero problems, poor internet, or compressing files.

I have a safe place for all our family media. Things happen with our devices and clouds all the time. Even if I hit the threshold with Google Photos, lose my phone, or mistakenly delete something from Google, I know that there is still a copy of a full race on local storage. They live on a server on which I control, and will not be the target of changes to the random cloud policy that I should hesitate to agree.

    My single hiccups

Rita El Khuri / Android Authority

But there is a negative aspect of another flawless system. Indian summer does not allow me to run all day – if I do this, they will fry these drives. In a small window that works every day, there are also times when the pictures of Synology lose some media backing. And if it lasts for a few days, I end up with a back blog of unsaturated images.

It has been bad for the fact that I do not open the Synology Photo app on my phone that often puts it in deep sleep, I have to awaken every few days – or weeks in terms of my memory. This is the only hiccup in it otherwise completely automatic setup.

How do twin children play well

    Dhu Bhutani / Android Authority

And this dual strategy can really work well for everyone who is tired of balling Google One Bills, but who cannot stop taking Zilian photos and videos on holidays. And honestly, you shouldn’t even – always memories on everything, always!

This dual strategy is actually in accordance with an additional safety -off -site backup specialist strategy.

If you are the NAS user for the first time or on a tough budget, anyone will work in the event of working if you just want to fix something and forget, although Synology images in NAS offer (not high bar) are more intuitive. Even 8 TB is enough to use home regular use and ‘unlimited’ images, while Google handles all smart in the low storage version of your library.

This double backup is much more reliable and provides extra peace to mental comfort. And seeing how many insects of my old, physical image albums are eaten and torn, I will not take any possibility of my memories.
