I’ve been a professional photographer for a decade, shooting everything from editorial photo stories, product photography and landscape, travel and street photography. At this time, I have learned that there are three important types of camera that all photographers need to own. And I’m not talking about brands, such as Sony or Canon, or even sensor types, such as full frame or APSC. I mean Deep Camera selection level – Camera types that offer basically different ways of taking photos and allow you to create your best work, no matter what gender you like to double.
And while these types can be three physically different cameras, they can be represented in two cameras, or even one. I will explain, so let’s sink with camera type one.
Work Horse
This is the camera that makes the goods. It is potentially filled with modern camera technology. It is faster to use, rapidly uses shoots, sharp auto -focuses, potentially image stability, and certainly exchange lenses. This can be a well -full frame. This is the camera used for all kinds of photo shoots around the world – just as I have – from weddings to cars to products … whatever it is. This is a Jack of All Trade Camera that you can trust that you will need to do it at any time when you need it.
I have used my Canon R5 on numerous professional shoots for photos and videos. It is a high -performance all -rounder.
For me right now, this cans is R5. Fast, high resolution. Tin Features a Philippi screen. And it shoots amazing video. Endless lenses and equipment options. This is the camera on which I rely on most of my professional tasks because I know it can provide it and I know that I can provide it when I am using it. Earlier, the Canon was 5 DIV and before that the Canon was 6D. Your IT, this can be Sony A7RV, Nican Z 8 or Panasonic Lomix S5ii.
It may not be the latest model nearby, but whether it was launched in 2025 or 2005, it would mark all the boxes you need for a busy day of photography, whether you are professional or enthusiastic amateur. The work horse is a camera that will do everything and it will perform it well. But it is probably very big and probably too expensive. It is nice to have a compacted, fixed lens camera like Fijmal’s X100vi, always ready to shoot.
Everyday Carey
This is a small digital. A compact point and shoot, ideally. Almost certainly a fixed lens. Military X100vi or Rico dropped. Even relatively ancient ancient Sony RX1R or Leica Q3. Q3 is not really so small, but I really like my Q3 43 as a daily car. When you are getting out without thinking about the lenses, it will be the type of camera that you can catch quickly. When you do not want a gear -filled bag while camping, but you and your colleagues want many entertainment shots around you and the campfire. This is the camera you can always take. This is a social camera that you have no objection to the chaos of life. It can potentially be just your phone camera.

This is probably your lightest camera that allows you to comfortably wear it in your throat while you are walking on the streets of an old Italian city. When you go into a bar and easily slip out your pocket, it is so small that when the light comes beautifully through the pub window and you want to catch a quick shot.
My Likika Q3 43 always allows me to snatch scenes whenever I see them with me.
It is a camera for quick shooting and social shooting-it may be rotated by hip or spray and prayer shooting. This is probably the camera on which you have captured the most memories but this is probably not the camera you used to take to take pictures of your favorite art. Oh no, it will be the same.
Art
It may not be Technically Be your best camera. This cannot be the most featured. It may not be the smallest, fastest or easier to use. But this is the camera that affects you the most. This is what makes you feel creative just seeing you. When you drive in one place for hours, this is what you have to choose when you shed good this evening.
This is a camera that forces you to think and think about the art in your photos instead of turning a thousand modest snaps. This is a camera that is responsible for the work you are proud of.
Hasel Blood 907x – A wonderful, quirky camera.
This camera can be a lot of things. It can be a film camera, whether 35 mm or 120 medium format. It will slow down you alone and you will adopt more methods unless you are happy to spend good luck on the movie. Or maybe it’s like a modern digital medium format such as Fuji GFX or my personal favorite, 907x 100c of Hasil Blood – this strange little box echoed me when I used it when I had to send it back to it was real difficult to be separated.
I found Hasel Blood’s X Panorama mode incredibly impressive. Even the photo was shortlisted for the UK’s major photography award.
This is a camera that you can’t still own and may not even know that you want. I didn’t know that I was not only interested in film photography recently, yet the next day I gave a person a hand in cash in the car park to buy his medium -sized Mamia 645 Pro, which I am very excited to use. Life sometimes throws things in its way. So maybe this camera is one that you will need to keep in mind a bit open. But this is also one that you will be happy to find in the years to come.
Three types, a camera
Between the work horse, everyday Carey and Artifol, you have covered yourself in any aspect of photography, no matter what genre.
I took my Canon R5 to Sicily, where he played all the role of work horse, everyday carrier and impressive camera. You do not have to need three separate cameras.
Of course, some cameras can be two things. Hell, some cameras can be all three. And that’s right – until a camera hit each of these three boxes for you. It is really up to you whether your camera is so small that your everyday Kerry or Enough is quite impressive to be your art. But this principle certainly does not mean that you need to go out and buy two extra cameras.
With a compact prime, my Canon R5 can certainly be all three. On a trip to Sicily, it was a great daily carcass and he encouraged me to take artistic photos that I later granted a license to go to a luxurious travel book, which means it was Plus My work horse marked all three boxes on only one journey. But this is not always happening to me in all these things.
My Likika Q3 43 was a great daily camera on Swedish Arctic and Barcelona’s recent journey. It was a camera that I had set up several ferry trips in different distant Scottish islands, and when I went to hang on the 40th anniversary with my brother, it was a camera. And yes, it’s also a camera that enthusiasts, which affects me and urges me to be more creative than my shooting. But this is my recent thing in the movie that has taught me even more about slowing down and developing an image, and the end of it has caused me to get this mamia 645 as my artifact camera, which completes my personal sacred Trinity.
And certainly, as my work and my style are developed and other cameras come, these three cameras will likely change over the years, but the works of the work horse, everyday and the basic buildings of the arts will always need to be met with whatever cameras are available.
