I’m going to collect a mobile phone. 3 AI phone features I used to visit Tokyo

I like to collect Japanese mobile phones pepper. I am also a tech creator and a teacher who likes to use technology to make my life easier. On a recent trip to Tokyo, I decided to use the features of AI on my phone to help the city navigate.

I have visited Japan six times in recent years, and as an enthusiastic fan and user of Japanese mobile phones and pop culture, I fully intend to see many more for ordinary tourism, popup events, special museums and parks. But my early visits to Tokyo were very much more confused. I had a basic understanding of language, but it was time before the AI and Street View in Google Maps. I picked up a Japanese dictionary with me, downloaded offline walking and read the online lesson about the method of buying a train ticket. It was… okay.

With the recent popularity of AI, I am allowing myself to meet the countries with a little less pre -planning and a little more. Instead of planning my journey based on previous visits, I can use my phone as a personal assistant to help discover new and low tourist destinations along the way, and for the first time opened the opportunity to re -experience your favorite city and keep your tours refreshed and new. And since I am a collector, AI has also given me the ability to know about vintage equipment found in stores abroad without wasting time or cash.

Here are three handy AI features I have recently tested in a real -world scenario.

Meet industry creators, partners and emerging leaders who have paired with the CNET award -winning team to provide you with unique content from different perspectives.

    Circle to find

One of my favorite things to do in Tokyo is that all the small vintage toy shops are roaming. It’s like a search for a treasure, and whenever I find something that I don’t have in my collection, I get excited. The problem is that there are thousands of mobile phones products, I do not memorize them all, and the language is obstructed.

It happened to me in Akhihabara, one of Tokyo’s electronics and mobile phones centers. I found a box in which I recognized a character, but I didn’t know what the product was. So, I opened the camera app on my Samsung Galaxy and held the line to open the circle for search.

The author pulled the circle around the product to start the image search.

    Shenon Morris

Circle Two Search is an AI -powered tool made by Google that uses the image on your screen to find similar results. In my case, I watched an unprecedented moon. Google then found a match. The results showed me numerous pictures of the character, which would have been helpful if I didn’t already know who he was.

After that, another vintage mobile phones wandered to the retailer. This time, I used the circle to search the price specifically to check. The price of this item was about $ 300 after the conversion, but was it a good deal? Identify the product to find the Circle and drag the lists of matching with eBay. Generally, the shop’s price was $ 200 to $ 300 less than the listings in the United States.

    Instant translation

This was a great price for the Vintage Seller Moon toy. But since it is electronic, I thought there was something wrong with it. The condition is listed on the product label, but I am not very good at translating by memory, so I used to find Google’s instant translate feature inside the circular. The good thing to use this device for translations is that I don’t have to scope anything. I can just hit the translation button at the bottom of the screen, and it translates everything to me.

The author immediately translated his phone camera. AI detected the source language as a Japanese, saving an input phase.

I don’t need to translate immediately to what language I am trying to translate. It detects the written language for me and automatically translates it. I found out that the toy was opened and slightly damaged. Although the translation was mostly accurate, it was not perfect. And the label didn’t give me all the information I wanted.

    Mode of conversation

I wanted more context, so I asked a store associate for more information using Google Translate Conversation Mode. Using AI, Google translates automatically and translates into the opposite language.

In our conversation, I asked for help, then asked if this item has worked? The store representative found the item number to confirm that he worked and tested. Earlier, whenever anyone spoke, I had to hit the Mike button and translate each sentence separately. But with these growing AI features, the mic remains open and uses direct information to continue the conversation.

When I use the conversation mode, I try to keep my sentences very easy to prevent misunderstandings, which can be exactly. Many Japanese words may seem very similar, but that can mean completely different things – Kovo and Kavi (scary and cute) is a good example. I studied the language, but I still have a lot to learn, so I didn’t want to be misunderstood.

In this direct translation, my word “battery” was also detected as “split” and fortunately, the employee realized that I was talking about batteries that strengthen the device. In a common conversation, it will usually be translated into Japanese as “Danchi”.

Whenever you ask a question, the conversation mode works in real time, without pressing another button.

    Shenon Morris

I thanked the employee for helping me and didn’t even buy this piece of chili, instead of buying a vintage but a completely new thing to add to my collection. Using Circle Two Search, AI Review and Conversation Mode, I saved myself money. I made no decision to buy on the basis of fear of disappearance, and I was able to ask for more context.

These AI -powered tools are very new, and they are not without their mistakes. But when it comes to helping break the barrier of a language or helping me improve with my personal hobbies, I can actually benefit from them. This is an exciting time for a mobile phone collector, passenger or both worldwide.
