In the WBC Blu -DC 2025, Apple announced major changes to iPados 26, including a high desktop styling multi -tasking system that feels closer to Mac. This long application updates helps overlaping Windows, a visible menu bar, and background works. But as Apple’s executives explained in a recent interview, the moment was easier. Speaking with Software Engineering’s Senior Vice President, Ars Technica, Craig Federgie, acknowledged that the new interface could now be clear, but the company had reasons for its prevention. The initial iPad lacked processing power, memory and reaction to support real multi -tasking. The extent to how Apple designed the iPado for years.

In addition to hardware barriers, many iPads and iPhone apps were not made to adapt to different screen sizes or size like desktop apps can be changed. So when users sought more flexibility, both software and hardware need to be manufactured.
That evolution eventually came. With Apple’s new chips iPad Pro and Accessories, such as track pads and keyboards, Apple began to focus on. According to Fedgery, the “like stars” allows the iPad to do more work that users usually expect from Mac, while still still sticking to the iPad identity.
This is not a first attempt to improve Apple’s multi -tasking. The stage manager, which was introduced in iPados 16, was a step in this direction but came with boundaries. He only worked on new models and had performance problems which were delayed. Apple has now admitted that it does not want to create a stage manager’s water version for old devices. This time, the company chose a different strategy: offering full experience where possible, and edited somewhere else.
Thanks to the improvement behind the screen, how the system handles Windows and Background works, the new multi -tasking model works on a wide range of iPads in iPados 26, though high -end models will still perform well.
Nevertheless, Apple believes that iPads and Mac complete different goals. This means there is no touch screen for Mac, and some Mac features that are out of the iPad users.
Where it is understood, use a converted design, but where this does not happen, it will be a member of the member.

Although there are some boundaries – such as restrictions on some background tasks – iPados 26 looks like a step in the right direction. It gives power users more tools without force changes to people who prefer simple, one-time tablet experience.
In my opinion, iPad OS 26 has been an important point for those of us who enjoy working less than mobiles, less culprits, operating systems. I have tried to experience one of my 11 “M4 iPad Pro, one of my 11” M4 iPad Pro, one of my 11 “M4 iPad Pro, I have failed one of my 11” M4 iPad Pro, and so far it has been great. I know I will go to some road block, but it is worth learning about it.
