Earlier this year, Google released a refreshing battery performance program for Pixel 4A, which reduced the phone’s battery life as a precautionary measure. Reason – Pixel 4 A batteries were at risk of high heat and fire.
Well, another pixel A series phone is treating the same as soon as the Pixel 6A will also reduce the battery voltage to prevent too much heat.
There are numerous reports of Pixel 6A units online and Google is once again taking a precautionary route. The update will only affect the Pixel 6A units with more than 400 charging cycles. The latest Android 16 QPR 1 Beta Beta release confirms these upcoming changes, and Google also issued an official statement.
To reduce the risk of heat from a potential battery, the pixel 6 A phones subset will require a mandatory software update.
The update will enable the battery management features that will reduce the capacity and charging efficiency after reaching 400 charge cycles.
We will contact the affected users next month, with all the information they need to solve the problem. – Google’s official statement
In the Pixel 4A case, Google reduced the maximum voltage of the battery to the original 4.45V value to 3.95V. The result means the charging capacity is 56 %. Pixel 6A will probably get similar treatment.
