As expected, Google releases Android 16’s first stable release for its pixel lineup. The update is now available for Pixel 6 series and new phones as well as the Pixel Tablet. Android 16 is available as an OTA update for the following devices.

Eligible devices for Android 16 Stable:

Android 16’s biggest changes are not part of this first stable release. We’re talking about content 3 expressions and new desktop mode, which will arrive later.

Google also released its developer Android 16 QPR 2 beta, which includes the new desktop mode. This requires display port connection from the external monitor and allows users to run multiple apps with maintenance windows. There is a task bar that shows running apps and a app drawer.

The attached phones work freely from the external display. If you are using a very pixel tablet like Google, the desktop session will be extended to both display so that you can pull items in both the tablet screen and the attached display.
