Google’s annual I/O developer conference is almost here, and everyone’s eyes will be on the company’s opening key note. But for the first time in the years, we know that there is little reason to expect big announcements of Android OS, as Google has already done this.
Instead, we are expecting that I/O’s key note will be about AI (almost), though we know that there will be at least some time to be dedicated to XR.
When Google will be I/O and where you can see
If you are planning to see, make sure to take a lot of time aside. I/O notes usually run for a couple of hours, and even despite the new Android announcements, we will expect it this time.
As my colleague Elison Johnson mentioned it in the weekend, the fact that this year’s I/O key note will be focused on AI, it should not be surprising. Gemini and her Elk have dominated the program for two years, and Google is involved in AI race with Openi, Meta, Microsoft and more. In fact, Microsoft’s blood developer starts one day after the event I/O, which should be compared back from behind.
It is likely that Google will have a lot to say about the new gymnasium features coming to phone and other devices, growing strength models, and hopefully some of the most prominent projects of Australia that will show us the Sky aspect of Google’s AI work.
There will be some XR too
I/O will not be Completely About AI, as Google has already promised the latest information on Android XR. During last week’s Android show, the company’s expanded reality OS did not get much screen time, plus Gemini’s support confirmed, but a closing tamper with Android Head Sameer Samat suggested that we would at least see something more from Google’s prototype smart glasses.
Samsung still says that its project Mohan Android XR headset is set to launch this year, so it may be Google’s last chance of giving details to the software before stealing Samsung light.
Don’t expect pixel or nest hardware
Google Pixel used I/O to launch phones and nest smart home tech, but it no longer looks like this. If we were going to hear new phones, tablets, or wearing, it was probably last week, and Google wanted nothing to remove anything from its AI updates. There is a chance that we will see the new XR hardware, but you should not expect anything ahead.
