Alanzi 9L Camera Sling Bag with Tripod Holder B122: A Two-Minute Review

I increasingly find myself on days where I only need a small bag with quick access to camera gear, whether it’s a day or my compact or lightweight mirrorless camera, taking street photos, or work events where I’m shooting tactical content with a smartphone, which supports wireless MICs and portable lighting.

For such times, a backpack is overkill, and access to the inside is usually slow and complicated. No, I need a small holder with quick access to gear, and that’s where a bag like Alanzi’s Camera Sling Bag (9L) is perfect and the best camera bag of its kind.

It takes the same crossbody bag form as the bags all the kids are wearing these days, but it’s also deeply practical (shhh, don’t tell them). It’s bigger than your average crossbody bag.

With it slung over one shoulder and resting on my midriff, where I can easily unzip and switch gears, I can store a lot of stuff. For a day of photography, a compact camera / an enthusiast mirrorless camera with a short prime lens, purse, phone, snacks and a small drink (there’s a continuous pocket on each side, but I struggled to find a drink container small enough to fit).

For content creation, a smartphone, wireless mic case, portable smallrig mini LED video light 25W (I have two, and they’re awesome and deserve their own feature—that’s coming), mini selfie stick with tripod/neck mount, phone clamp, mint, comb, the whole shebang. It all fits.

I’m currently using a Xiaomi 15 Ultra for social media video work, and it fits vertically in the Alanzi sling bag, as do the lights and mini-selfie stick less tripods, which means I have to stand them horizontally.

I was surprised to find that the Alanzi sling bag is also big enough to hold a regular tablet (like a 10.9-inch iPad)—it’s positively gnarly—while other nice touches include a hidden AirTag pocket.

Even with all that gear inside, the Alanzi Sling Bag is comfortable on one shoulder, thanks to its padded strap and snug fit around the torso. It is designed to rest over the shoulder and at midriff height, with a central compartment accessed via a top zip, which runs the full width, for easy access.

The bag comes with an internal divider. It can be laid flat to provide a firm underside and leave the main compartment completely open, or fold in on itself to create three separate compartments, and divide gear to keep it safe from other items. It’s great to have a choice between open and split, and the splitter can stay inside for either setup.

Build quality is particularly good. I’m expecting to get many years of use out of the bag – the outer polyester material seems flimsy. The main zipper is weather sealed and glides easily.

No rain cover is provided, but I wouldn’t expect water to get in – it has easily coped with light rain. Just to clarify, though, I haven’t used the bag outside in inclement weather, so I can’t vouch for it in those conditions yet.

There are external straps to fix additional accessories, such as a small tripod on the underside. The side straps are included less for accessories but more to provide a grip that makes zipping and unzipping the main compartment a breeze.

Elsewhere, there’s a disguised outer pocket with a particularly sticky and extensive Velcro fastening front – ideal for thin items like a wallet. The cover can be removed to expose the Velcro, and Alanzi sells Velcro badges for customizing the exterior, which I didn’t.

Simply put, every aspect of the bag works as expected. I can’t find a single fault with the Alanzi Camera Sling 9L bag, at least functionally, and it’s also reasonably priced. I found it at Amazon US. Got it for 49.95, and at the time of writing, there’s an extra $10 off the coupon. The price on the Sauda Alanzi site is slightly different, but there is international shipping (see details below).

The only criticism I have is subjective – the appearance of the bag. Its plain black exterior won’t win any style awards, and I’m not sure the optional Velcro badges help matters. No, it’s more work than aesthetics.

Looks aside, if you need a small sling bag for day trips with lightweight gear or a mobile content creation setup, you can’t go wrong with the Alanzi 9L Camera Sling Bag with Tripod Holder B122, and it deserves my highest recommendation.
