    Two more smartphones get Android 16-based Nothing OS 4.0 stable update

    Last week the Nothing OS 4.0 stable update based on Android 16 was released for the Nothing Phone (3), and now the rollout has extended to two more smartphones – the Nothing Phone (3A) and the Nothing Phone (3A) Pro.

    Nothing OS 4.0 comes with new features, visual enhancements, camera enhancements and more. You can read below chainlog for more details.

    • New features

      • Added AI usage dashboard. When using necessary space, it automatically tracks usage with an AI large model to improve privacy transparency. Path: Settings > Intelligence Toolkit > AI Usage.
      • Hiding apps directly from the home screen and app drawer is supported. Find hidden apps: Home screen > App drawer > Hidden icons.
      • Search scope management is now supported in the app drawer to display results within a specific scope.
      • Added more size options for weather, pedometer, screen time widgets.
      • 2×2 size is now supported for most quick setting tiles.
      • Popup View now supports two floating icons for easy switching.
      • System upgrade supports app optimization to improve startup speed. Path: Settings > Apps > App optimization.

    • Essential innovations

      • Flip to Record now lets you take photos and add notes while recording, all gathered together for easy access in the place you need them.
      • Introducing Playground (Alpha) – to experience unique community creations, including essential apps, camera presets, and EQ profiles.
      • Essential Apps (Alpha) is now open for download. Enjoy AI-powered, community-developed apps that combine creativity with efficiency.

    • Visual enhancement

      • None of the app icons have been redesigned with a brand new, fresh look.
      • Updated status bar icons with a more intuitive look.
      • Added 2 new lock screen watch faces to customization.
      • Extra Dark Mode is now available, bringing a more immersive dark style. Path: Settings > Display > Dark Theme > Extra Dark Mode.
      • Improved transition animations in certain scenarios for a smoother, more fluid experience.

    • Glyph interface

      • Flip to Glyph switches your phone to silent or vibrate mode.
      • Glyph Progress now uses Android 16 direct update notifications for better compatibility with third-party apps.

    • Camera enhancements

      • Presets: Updated default list with new popular styles.
      • Filters: Added intensity adjustment and special ‘stretch’ style.
      • Motion Photo: Supports long recording times and audio capture.
      • Watermarks: The brand introduced nothing new to watermarks and artistic frames.
      • Interface: Refreshed camera UI design with better interaction.

    Nothing Says Stable Nothing OS 4.0 is headed to a limited number of Phone (3A) and Phone (3A) Pro users, and a wider rollout will begin if the initial release goes smoothly.

    It is also worth noting that users have to update the necessary space to the latest version to enjoy the better flip to record feature. Moreover, it is not recommended to backup data before installing anything OS 4.0 update.
