Realme’s GT series has emerged as one of the best value-for-money flagships in recent years—even challenging OnePlus, which held the title for a long time. The GT7 Pro had a good run as one of the more affordable Snapdragon 8 Elite phones out there. Now, its successor promises even more significance.
The Realme GT8 Pro uses the latest Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 and that’s not the only upgrade over the GT7 Pro. The screen is sharper (6.79″ 1440p+, 144Hz vs 6.78″ 1264p+, 120Hz), the battery is bigger (7,000mah vs 6,500mah) and the camera is better.

The 3x/65mm telephoto camera now has a larger 1/1.56″ 200MP sensor (Samsung HP5). This is quite a departure from last year’s model’s mid-range 1/1.95″ 50MP sensor inside the 3.5x/73mm periscope. The ultra-wide also got a big bump to a 50MP sensor (from a lower 8MP sensor).
The Ricoh GR mode is cool for street photography fans, though we found it a bit limiting. The changing camera island is a gimmick, which some may find amusing (and others may simply ignore). Importantly, the camera hardware produced excellent results with only minor complaints—perfect for something that costs a lot less than an all-out flagship like the Oppo Find X9 Pro.

The Realme GT8 Pro has a faster chipset (the GPU needs more cooling), a great display and the best battery we’ve tested (though not as good as the Oppo or OnePlus 15).
The OPPO Find X9 Pro is a €1,300 phone and the Vivo X300 Pro is even higher at €1,400. Only the OnePlus 15 is in the same ballpark as €1,000 (these prices are for the 512GB unit).
