Modular phones have never taken off and cases that add functionality are few and far between – perhaps that’s because Apple hasn’t taken a crack at it yet. Leicester Instant digital Says “Apple will invest heavily in government security in the future”.

The goal is to turn things into a “second-touch interface.” What does it mean? Lecter is quite vague about this. Is it a full-blown second touchscreen like LG and ASUS have made in the past? It doesn’t look like it. Will it be a touchpad like we see on iPad keyboard covers? Unclear

Apparently, the goal is to add new features to iPhone pros and make them “even more pro.” iPhones already have a camera control, a capacitive touch area that serves many functions. It’s not a special feature and, worse, it’s not particularly popular.

This could be a way for Apple to eat up the physical keys on its phones.

Apple has an interesting patent titled “Case with Input for Electronic Device”. Its description reads: “For example, a case may provide an electromechanical touch sensor to provide a user with an input mechanism that does not require the electronic device’s buttons to actuate. The electronic device, upon detecting the presence of the case, may disable one or more buttons and perform actions associated with the buttons when received from the signal.”

By the way, the next Pro models are coming in the fall of 2026, while the vanilla model will be unveiled half a year later.
