Nintendo Switch 2 Carrying Case and Screen Protector: Review

Want to take your beloved Nintendo Switch 2 on the road without fear of damage or destruction? Well, the official Nintendo Switch 2 carrying case and screen protector might be the ideal fit for you.

This package provides you with a case that can hold your Switch 2 console (including Joy-Con 2 controllers), six game cartridges, and some small accessories, such as Joy-Con straps, for example. Of course, you also get a screen protector for good measure – more on that later.

I want to start by discussing this issue, which I found really solid. It’s nicely finished, with the Switch 2 logo front and center, and fittingly, it has red and blue handles on the two zippers, which feel smooth and easy. The case also has a pleasantly durable feel about it, and after dropping it a couple of times and giving it a good scratch, I couldn’t see a single sign of wear either – it’s more like the quality I’d expect from the best Nintendo Switch 2 accessories.

Inside, there are three compartments: one on each side of the case to hold the console, and another that can hold small accessories, with room for six cartridges on top. Could there be some more game card slots? Yes, but personally, six physical slots would be enough for me if I’m doing a short trip – plenty of room for some party games like e.g. Mario Kart World And Super Mario Party Jamboree + Jamboree TVas well as some single-player adventures.

The amount of storage in this third compartment is limited – you’re not going to get your dock here. I can fit a pair of earbuds or a Joy-Con strap with no problem, but if you’re hoping to store an item like a USB camera or a Nintendo Switch 2 Pro controller, you might want to check out a larger option. The one upside here is that the case remains thin and narrow for the console, meaning you can easily slot it into a bag without worrying about it being too bulky.

I really liked the case in general, and if I’m not planning to play docked I can use it instead of my official Nintendo Switch 2 All-in-One Carry Case. But one thing I realized is that it is very vulnerable to fingerprints. Even when shooting the images you see in this guide, I had to erase it a few times – it’s a small thing, but worth flagging.

As I mentioned earlier, the package also includes a screen protector, but I was feeling less positive about it. You’ll have to temper your expectations here – you’re not getting a tempered glass screen protector, after all! Instead, it’s an anti-scratch piece of film, which is hardly the most protective option on the market.

You don’t get a frame to help you apply the screen protector – you have to fit it freehand. But even though I pitched it pretty well, I still ran into some cases, like excessive air bubbles, which were a struggle to squeeze out. For example, I put it through the same testing process. And even though my console went numb, I’d still recommend getting the tempered glass option for better protection and peace of mind.

Finally, I’m going to treat the screen protector more as an add-on. For me the focus is on the case, which I think is good value, especially for UK and Aussie buyers who are spending as much as £20.99//au$39.95 to get their hands on this model – I’ve already seen it on sale for less. In the U.S., availability seems patchy, and the $39.99 price tag is a bit embarrassing, proportionately.

Still, you’re getting a slim, well-made and durable case for on-the-go. And finally, I think Nintendo’s official case is worth considering.

How I Tested the Nintendo Switch 2 Carrying Case and Screen Protector

    • Tested over several days
    • Taken with me on public transport and to the office
    • Tested by a Nintendo Switch 2 owner and lifelong gamer

I tested the Nintendo Switch 2 carrying case and screen protector over the course of a few days. I hooked it up to my Nintendo Switch 2 console, Joy-Con 2 controllers, and a charging cable, and as expected, it held up well.

To judge the durability of the case, I tried dropping it from a good distance, and also scratched the exterior. I then checked for any wear and tear as the testing period approached. Where appropriate, I compared the case to competitors on aspects such as rigidity and storage space.

I’m a Switch 2 owner, lifelong gamer, and a seasoned tech reviewer with plenty of experience with Switch 2 accessories. After getting hold of my Switch 2 at launch, I’ve tested a number of products, including Nintendo Switch 2 cases like the Nikon Protection Case XL for Nintendo Switch 2, screen protectors like the Dibrand Prism 2.0, and cameras like the Hori Piranha Plant Camera.
