The US-French Sweet (surface water and marine tipography) seized the leading edge of the tsunami wave, which roams the Pacific on July 30, 2025 (11:25 am local time), resulting in an 8.8 earthquake on Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula. The satellite seized the data 70 minutes after the earthquake. SWOT is designed to map the oceans and fresh water on the ground. The satellite recorded data from the tsunami when it was passing through the deep sea.

    About Swot

According to NASA, the SWOT satellite was jointly developed by NASA and the French Space Agency CNES (Center National De Tudus Spatilles). NASA provided the band radar interface (carin) device, a GPS science recipient, a laser retrieval filter, a two beam microwave radiometer, and NASA device. Satellite system, dual frequency positive ultimator, corn radio frequency sub system, satellite platform, and co -ordinated doperter arbatography and radiopaths were provided through CNE.

It helps to make modern technology and special radar sea level height. In this case, the height of the tsunami wave and the shape of the shape in open water shows that the largest edge of the wave was about 1.5 feet (45 cm) high. He also traveled to the coastal areas, capturing the profile and direction of the wave. Such a detailed measure of tsunami in the sea is unusual.

    Better disaster predictions

The Noaa Center for Tsunami Research tested its prediction models using new satellite data and found that the accuracy of the prediction, including SWOT measurement, could improve significantly. NASA marine expert Ben Hamlington noted that a tsunami of 1.5 feet in the deep sea could also rise in a 30 -foot wave on the coast and must be detected soon. The observations suggest that SWOT operational tsunami can significantly increase the forecast, said Wasley Titov, chief scientist at the Noaa Center for Tsunami Research.
