- The US government has proposed a new nationwide system to access and share digital medical records.
- The system includes more than 60 tech companies that are united to create a central system that can use health care and medical providers.
- This includes the use of AI chat boats to help patients note their symptoms and help to help chronic diseases such as obesity and diabetes.
How the US government is trying to store and share their health records to US citizens. US President Donald Trump has announced a new system yesterday that will save the medical history of all citizens in electronic formats, which will be easier to share with various medical facilities, such as hospitals, clinics, pharmacists as well as medical providers. The government is also working towards creating a stable medical ID, equivalent to your social security number, to allow fast access to medical history.
The project will be developed with the involvement of more than 60 leading technology companies, such as Apple, Amazon, Google, Microsoft, Open i, etc., will oversee the US Centers for Medicare and Medicated Services (CMS), which is expected to send interplacery in the first quarter of 2026.
In its press release, CMS added that infrastructure will enable various “precision information and exchange, electronic health records (EHR), and tech platforms to enable the data exchange. In addition to facilitating the easier sharing of personal data records – and providing new plans for citizens to access health care,” he said. Does, “so that patients need this information and resources to make better health decisions.”
In addition to a digital framework for sharing health records, the administration also puts eyes on technology products that will help Americans overcome chronic diseases, especially diabetes and obesity. In addition, CMS plans to add AI chat boats talking like Chat GPT, which will help patients examine their symptoms of initial diagnosis and scheduled appointments. In addition, the CMS aims to completely eliminate hand -written records and completely transfer of digital system.
The CMS has begun construction of APIS (or application programming interface) that will help developers integrate the system into their apps. It will be based on the Fast Healthcare Interprete Resources (FHIR) format, an open source standard for storing medical records and is already supported by Android and iOS. Although the CMS did not clearly mention it, we can expect smart wear, especially smart colors and smart watches, which should be added as a source of data collecting. The Health and Human Services (HHS) secretary, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., will be able to wear a great wear to ensure every American by the end of Trump’s current rule in the White House.
Is this really a good idea?
Despite the government’s enthusiasm, the announcement stimulates confidentiality concerns, mainly because FHIR records are not naturally confidential. Instead, operators are advised to use safe channels to share health records. In addition, the Governing Federal Law, namely, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, or HIPAA, only enforces that “individual and HHS receive timely HIPAA violation notification,” instead of imposing more serious fines on criminals.
And to increase it, allowing AI companies to access your private health care data opens up another cans of insects, which can eliminate them by misusing your medical history for their financial benefits. Thankfully, for now, this facility is voluntary, but we cannot say that it is so in the coming months.
