A new investigation from PC Watch Apple has compared the performance of Apple’s smartphone chips over time, and found that the iPhone CPU has improved 384.9x since the original model launched in 2007.
The analysis uses the Gack Bench data to track performance in generations, which is estimated to have an annual improvement rate of about 40 %.
Based on this pace, the next generation iPhone 17 Pro, which is expected later in 2025, can move the figure with a 500x mark in the past.

The original iPhone, which was launched by Steve Jobs in 2007, was reinforced by the SOC based on Samsung by the SOC. The chip had a frequency of 620 MHz rating, but it actually operated only 412 MHz.
For the iPhone 3GS, which released two years later, Apple went to a Cartax-A-8-Core Samsung CPU (APL0298C05), which launched a high-performance chip design.
In 2013, Apple launched the iPhone 5S, the first smartphone to ship with 64 -bit processor, Apple A7 (Hurricane). The move had tilted Apple before the rest of the mobile industry at that time.
Apple’s design philosophy has long focused on balance in power with performance. While Android chip makers embraced eight and ten core designs, Apple has been trapped with a six -core setting since 2017, usually included two high -performance core and four performance covers.
Nevertheless, Apple is permanently above or close to both single threaded and multi -core performance.
The 2024 iPhone 16 and the iPhone 16 Pro continued this view. Standard models use A17 bionic chip, made at the 3NM process, and scored more than 8100 PC WatchGeekbench 6 testing. The Pro Model A18 uses bionic, which has scored more than 8500 and the basic watches of more than 4GHz.
For comparisons, from 2021, the iPhone 13 Pro Max scored about 5700 runs in the same benchmark. Which translates 50 % improvement in three years.
The increase in the performance achieved since 2007 by different species of the iPhone is clearly huge, but there are warnings of the methods used for testing. It is important to note that modern standards of old iPhones have been predicted in modern standards.
