Apple has just launched a Wachos 26 public beta, which means that everyone can now test the latest software leading to Apple Watch this fall. This includes new features of Apple Intelligence, such as exercise Buddy, new features of messaging, wrist flick gestures, and more.
I am using the developer son and have some ideas to share. Apple Intelligence does not arrive at Wachos 26 with an explosion. So now, why bring it to the clock, and why this special set of features?
David Clark, senior director of Apple’s Software Engineering for Apple’s Watchos, told me that it was a matter of highlighting Apple Watch’s “basic qualifications”: fitness and maintaining.
The features of AI fitness are all anger. Fitness tracking creates a mountain of figures, and making it a digestive context is a Herculein task. Nevertheless, watching the Buddy Casal Rail of Exercise during the WWDC Key note, I entered Tina Bob’s burgers. In this, you see that a woman passes through the neighborhood when the sound of AK -based sound reads her speed and other statistics. A few minutes after the key note was finished, my phone resonated with texts. They all asked the same question: How much would I hate this exercise friend?
After its use, I will plan: not really so much. Exercise is more subtle than Buddy Cesel Rail.
“An important challenge should be considered when applying any technology, AI or something else, how can a real value be included in an experience?” Clark explains. He noted that Apple Watch is already an expert in tracking activities, but with exercise Buddy, the purpose was to “bring something that was low technical data” and more stimulus.
Exercise Buddy begins with Pope Talk each session and ends what you have ended. The middle of your workout is the place where AI is to be magic.
Clark says, on a run, workouts will note your speed whenever you travel a mile distance. If you hit the 100th mile of the year, you may also get a celebration message, etc. Running a loan to a chatter exercise friend. In a walk or high -intensity interval training session, Clark says, you will probably not hear from a exercise friend at all.
In my walk, I just heard from the exercise friend at the beginning and end of my workout. The “context” was that AI told me about my progress towards closing my thumbs for the day, and am I making good progress compared to my average? It was a lot of straining during my runs, reading my class hours, or if I had stopped a ring.
Exercise does not make friend Feel Like AI (though you need to make Apple Intelligence’s phones to use the feature.) This is not a chatboat. You can’t ask questions about your data – or anything else about this matter during exercise. Audio indicators are not new to statistics. Fitness apps have been doing enough for years. Technically, AI -powered bits are doubled. Exercise friend’s voices have been trained on Apple Fitness Plus trainers. (You can choose out of three right now.) And it is pulling a historic dispute with your data and notifying you in real time.
Most fitness apps mobilize you as badges within the app through historical data. This is not something that is usually provided as audio cue in real time. Because I didn’t hit the running milestone this year – my PRs are not yet with regret – I can’t properly say that exercise Buddy helped me feel more excited. Was it nice to hear that I was on the way to close my thumbs at the end of the workout? Of course, if you are a long -running runner like me, the milestone is not a daily thing. But from the past experience, I will appreciate a workout friend in which I was given an encouraging state in 10 miles of half marathon.
I wish you customized friendship. This settings would be cool so I will get 30 % more stimulation during a race or I will get insights to slow it during the hot weather. Perhaps this is the head of a workout friend. But for now, it feels like a more cautious implementation.
It’s all in the jokes
It is a bit clear why the exercise Buddy gets marke billing when you look at other methods shown on the Apple Intelligence Word. Although it is on guards, this is more clearly AI than the rest of the Apple Intelligence features of the Wachos 26.
The many features of Apple Intelligence that you will see on the Watch this year will be extended that is available on the phone. This includes direct translations and smart action (ie, if you find your part of the bill, you can tap it to send it via Apple Cash) in messages. But there are also other features that are more widely powered by the Apple Intelligence name. One such feature is a better smart stack.

The smart stack was first introduced in Watchos 10, and that means the widget you need at the right time. This year, you also find a small icon on your watchface that indicates the widget to you While You may need it. It seems stupid, but it is a smart adaptation.
According to Clark, better smart stack algorithms now include several signals from apps. This includes direct activity data, environmental indicators (such as, if you are in a remote location without LTE or Wi -Fi), or recently used apps.
Smart stack has always been difficult to feel. Popting Uber Vegetate has usually been a matter of smart stacks, which I am most familiar with. But the next day, I was making dinner, and while setting the timer, I saw the weather widget signal. Apparently, a great flood was issued because of the heavy rainfall. Because of this, my spouse and I forced me to change my cars so that their fancy sports car could sit in the garage. This is a small thing, but it is useful.

Double tap, or pinch, is easy. But this can be disagreeable by wrists, or Philippi flip. When you get a notification you don’t want, you can just twisted your wrist to exclude it. This is the hand of my favorite addition to Wachos 26.
Clark says, “The thing we wanted to accomplish with him was moving his story forward” I am either going to take action or I am going to decide whether it’s no longer for me. ” “There is a very good balance to get away from what you are seeing. I am doing a kind of work with it, I am rejecting it. ‘
The wrists have been extremely useful to me, the recipient of a lot of information. It takes a second to remember it. But the combination of double taps and wrists has made me a notification tragedy machine. I wonder why we don’t always have as default.
I am testing the developer beta, and a lot may change before the final version of the Watchos 26 in this fall. But based on what I have seen in Watchos 26? These are the features that end in the background that left the strongest impression.
