E -Ink has developed a new touchpad for a laptop that features the same electronic paper technology found in e -readers. This is not the first company to look at the growing size of laptop touchpads and see the ability to do extra functionality, but instead of serving as the second small screen for the computer’s OS, e -ink is positioned as a dedicated home position for AI applications and assistants to its touchpad.
A mock -up image shared by the company contains a laptop with a touchpad that is upgraded with the color e -ink screen, which is used by instruments like Amazon Kundal Clerksoft. Instead of expanding the laptop’s main screen, E-Ink has imagined its new touchpad because of being a separate space where AI-influxed text summons below your hands can appear in your hands while working on the document, or you can maintain a desktop Windows without any AI chat boot.
E -Ink’s display technology only uses power when it is being updated. This is a huge advantage in view of the high demands of AI tools on the laptop battery life.
Like Apple’s closed touch bar, e -Ink also says that touchpad display can provide frequently used shortcuts, display notifications or immediate access to weather, or provide temporary playback control without sacrificing a line of laptop keyboard function. It will also help reduce battery problems, as unlike LCD or OOLED panels, e -ink’s display technology only uses power when it is being updated. This is a huge advantage in view of the high demands of AI tools on the laptop battery life.
What is not currently known is more deep technical explanations. Using the touchpad possibly using the colorful e -paper display, e -ink has not revealed whether it will adopt any of its existing panels, or if it has fully developed with increasing resolutions. Today’s announcement refers to compatibility with Intel -based AIPC, but e -ink has not been detailed whether the touchpad display will be powered by the basic OS of laptops, or if it has its own feature. The company also did not provide a timeline when it could start showing in touchpad laptops or hardware makers may be interested.
