- Voice commands are not working as expected for many Google users to change light colors.
- Google Assistant has allegedly responded that the lights are offline, though the color changing app works well.
- Google is aware of this problem and is actively looking into the matter.
If you are experiencing issues of changing color of your smart lights using sound commands, you are not alone. Many Google Home users have recently reported a problem affecting this functionality, but Google is already in the case.
According to reports from Reddate and Google Nest Community Forums, Google Assistant instead of changing the color as expected, Google Assistant replied that the attached lights were offline. However, lights appear online in both Google Home and OEM apps, and users can manually replace colors without any hassle.
This problem is not limited to a particular brand’s smart lights. Consumer reports show that the issue affects Philips Hua, Wes, Xiaomi, Yelite, and Toyya lights, which suggest that a bug in Google Assistant can be blamed. Interestingly, the bug does not affect the ability to change or turn off the lights.
Thankfully, Google has already acknowledged the issue and is “actively considering it.” However, the company has not yet shown the main reason or shared details about potential fixes. We expect the company to share more details when the main reason is once identified. In the meantime, you have to stay using Google Home or OEM specific fellow apps to change your smart light colors.
