Pope Leo XIV, who took over the leadership of the Catholic Church in May, is revealing an area on which he will focus on: artificial intelligence. The Pope has called on the tech companies to develop a “high moral standard” against which AI is evaluated. The message was conveyed to the tech leaders, including Google, Meta, Open, and IBM leaders, who attended the AI in Rome and participated in the second annual conference on its ethics.

The framework that the Pope is asking for will ensure that the AI ”not only material, but also intellectually and spiritually keeps the welfare of human beings. In Friday’s message, Pope AI also indicates unprecedented access to unparalleled and information because potentially affects the development of children.

“We helped their journey towards our youth, maturity and true responsibility, and did not hinder them,” he said.

This is not the first time the Pope has discussed AI. He mentioned it in his first Popal address in May. He has also recently talked about the challenges that “questioning the dignity of a human person” in a speech to Italian bishops. Artificial intelligence, bio -technology, data economy and social media were all involved in this speech.

He is not directly condemning Ai. He said that there are possibilities for good for FRA, he said, if used properly, AI “can promote more equality.” However, the Pope noted that the AI also offers the possibility of “misuse for self -interest” for “conflict and aggression”.

There is no regulatory power in the Vatican, but it has not stopped her from giving her voice about AI’s morality. In 2020, the Vatican called Rome for AI Ethics, a document about the moral reservations of the AI algorithm. IBM, Microsoft and Qualcomm signed the agreement to follow the rules. The Pope’s strong stand on the AI is similar to its predecessor, the late Pope Francis, who emphasized that the AI should be used only to benefit humanity.
