I hate nothing else than to advertise online. This is especially true when it appears in places where I at least expect it, like my email inbox. In the Gmail app, the biggest offender is “sponsored” emails in the above mentioned picture. These ads are often shown as a regular message and look like any other email – the sender, the subject line, and all. Some advertisements are even worse and you have important properties to display product photos and prices.

As you expect from a free service like Gmail, there is no way to disable ads unless you get out for Google Work space subscription. But what would happen if I told you that Gmail has a job that allows you to get rid of these disturbing ads once and for everyone? Right now, the solution works on both, mobile apps and desktops, and it does not need to be installed in any third party. Let me explain

Gmail ads appear in only one place

To get rid of ads within Gmail, it is worth taking a look that you are most likely to face: Promotions tab. Google’s email service uses your email to various tabs: primary, promotions, social, updates and sometimes in forums, a system called inbox categories. These categories are active as defaults and are developed as a way to help you deal with the inbox clutter.

Although these categories may look simple on paper, they hide a secret: Promotions tab is a place where you will find most of Gmail advertisements, if not all of them. Top of the Promotions The tab usually has at least three “sponsored” emails and you will get even more after scrolling some of your original messages.

It is enough to disable a setting to get rid of timid ads within Gmail.

Surprisingly, it is as easy to close these sponsored emails in Gmail as completely disabling the inbox category – detailed instructions below. Gmail returns to a single, united inbox as a result of a change in this setting. Without promotions tabs, you will not see more sponsored messages on your emails.

As you expected, the biggest negative aspect is that Gmail will no longer send your emails to discrete buckets, and everything will appear in your basic inbox. If you rely on the inbox category, this may not be an option for you. But since I arrive, I try to maintain zero inbox lifestyle by reading, deleting, deleting, deleting, or snipping, so the lack of category does not bother me much.

How to disable the inbox category

    Calvin Wankheed / Android Authority

Gmail first introduced inbox categories in the early 2010’s, and this feature is turned on by default on all accounts.

To disable it inside the Android app, open the Gmail app and find the app settings below the Hamburger Menu. Next, select the email address for which you want to change the sequence and to navigate it Inbox category Here section, you can close one or more categories. Of course, what we least care about is promotions.

On the desktop version of Gmail, the process is somewhat different. Click on the gear icon in the upper right corner of the screen to open the sidebar of the settings. Next, scroll in the “Inbox type” part below, select Default. View, and click Customized. Uncontinent of promotions and any other varieties you want to remove, and kill Save.

Once you save this setting, go back to your inbox and reset the reload. You should now see all your promotional emails under your primary inbox, except for any advertisement. This layout is compatible with all your devices, so you don’t need to repeat it.

In fact, this adaptation is not for everyone. If you rely on the promotions tabs on the delete marketing emails once a week, removing the category can transmit all this disorder into your main inbox. But if you already check all your tabs regularly or prefer complete control, it is worth it. The good news is that if you dislike the change, you can always go back.
