One of the most famous of the ticket, hex, has been recommended by mouth tapping and has been endorsed by celebrities. Even our sleeping team tried – “Multiple worried night sleep” fulfills our experience.

Tamping from the mouth claims that it can stop the scorchite, eliminate breath and help you enjoy a better, more comfortable sleep.

Nevertheless, despite its popularity, the science and safety of the mouth breathing remains intact.

But it may be time to keep the conversation in bed, as a systematic review of mouth -tapping studies concludes that it “poses a potentially serious threat to harm to those who practice indiscriminately.”

    Key path from review

    • Mouth -tapes are of health risks, especially when blinds are used
    • Some benefits have been recorded from the use of mouth tape …
    • But other studies found no positive effect of this phenomenon

What is the tap of the mouth?

In recent years, a mouth tape has exploded on the ticket, which has a sleep hack to tighten the scratch, rotate and possibly even the jaw line. This is exactly what it says on the tin: a sticky patch that you place on your mouth so that you may be forced to breathe in your nose as you sleep.

To become one of the most famous sleep hex online, after being cleansed of the tricktok algorithm, mouth tapping has been subject to numerous studies.

Now a systematic review has evaluated these studies and has some recorded benefits in the viral sleep trend, instead of noting the risk of damage to the mouth tape.

To review, the early 86 articles were displayed on the tapping from the mouth until 10 standards were met, covering a total of 213 patients.

Of these, two studies had the potential benefits of taping mouth for people with sleeplessness, in which we would dive below.

However, when using mouth tape, four of the ten studies discussed the “serious threat of nasal obstruction or reactionary threat”.

And there was no permanent consensus that mouth tapping has any benefit to sleep, after this phenomenon, the sevelals of the participants have no improvement in many studies.

Are there any benefits of mouth tape?

The review did not declare the mouth unpleasantly damaged and as it was written above, some participants saw the improvement in sleep.

However, researchers have warned against using this practice indiscriminately – for example, finding the trend during the trickyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyh

But let’s look at these benefits …

Taping of the mouth forces you to breathe and do so that you avoid the breathing of the mouth, such as dry tongue and breathing odor.

Even some studies found that tapping of the mouth can reduce the symptoms of sleep deprivation. Lack of sleep occurs when the muscles fall in the back of the throat, making it difficult to breathe as you sleep.

But these results were not permanent. And when you discuss the potential benefits of mouth tapping, the risks must also be considered.

Is there a mouth tapes danger?

Closing the mouth requires nasal breathing, but there are some serious risks to prevent the use of a major airway.

First and most importantly, it will be difficult for anyone to breathe when using any blocked nose tape.

The 2025 review notes that in multiple studies, anyone with “nasal obstruction or pathology” has been excluded, safety concerns that cannot be observed to correct social media to fix fast sleep.

Even if you go to the bed of breathing freely through the nose, there are ways of blocking your sleep as you sleep. Suddenly the cold falling bed.

If you face vomiting or reflux at night, there is also a risk in mouth tapping. With your mouth covering, you may begin to penetrate or strangle.

Although in many cases the worst part of the mouth tapping is cutting the strip the next morning, the potential dangers means that it is a viral hack that remains online.

And if you suffer from a sleep deprivation or severe sleep disorders, talk to a doctor before testing any online hack – yes, this includes our Tom Guide favorites.

Mouth is sleeping better without tape

Although the systematic review does not reject all the benefits from this viral sleep hack, alerts are enough to keep us down the mouth tape …

Well, checking the mouth tape was never enough for most of us to go back, but if you were discussing the tendency of this tectic trend, here are some safe alternatives.

    1. Use the nose strip

Like a mouth tape, you get stuck on the face of the nasal stripes before you go to bed. But unlike the mouth tape, the nasal strip does not stop any holes that you use for breathing.

These thin strips are open to the nostrils instead, which allows more air to pass. It encourages you to breathe from your nose, not with your mouth.

Our team has tested nose stripes and found that they can help sleep during the cold and prevent noise bed partners from scratching.

If you are trying to discourage mouth breathing at night, the nasal belt is not as effective as you close your mouth but they are more secure.

    2. Change your pillow

A safe (and more comfortable) alternative of tape that stimulates the closed mouth is looking for the right pillow for your sleep position.

Choosing the right pillow keeps your head, neck and spinal cord align, so it is less likely to open your mouth as you sleep.

You can find our expert experiences for every sleep position in our guide for the best pillows this year-the back and front sleeping often take advantage of the bottom, while the side sleepers need some thick and more cushions.

Changing your pillow content can also make the nasal breath a bit easier. Some pillow materials can trigger allergies, possibly due to breathing from your nose affected mouth.

The memory foam or the choice of alternate pillow, which reduces the chance of reaction, can keep your defect clean (and your mouth is closed).

    3. Follow good sleep hygiene

Good sleep hygiene improves your bedtime routine so you can sleep faster and enjoy high quality comfort.

This means to properly down before bed, cut off screen at the evening and avoid caffeine in the afternoon.

We also recommend that you make a permanent sleep routine, so your body learns when to leave and when to wake up.

And sleep hygiene includes normal hygiene – keeping your mattress and bed clean.

Regularly cleaning the mattress prevents the construction of dust, mildew and other allergies, all of which can cause allergic reactions, which will potentially be blocked and need to breathe from your mouth.
