- Google Pixel phones can soon show a display of a display that shows the blurred version of your lock screen wallpaper, this is a new option called ‘AOD’.
- This ‘Mahayati AOD’ feature is hidden in Android 16 QPR1 beta updates and includes the user toggle to turn off or off the wallpaper display.
- However, we observed the screen flickering on the current pixels, suggesting that the feature of this new AOD can be allocated for future devices such as Pixel 10.
Many Android smartphones are always offered a display (AOD) that allows you to see date, time and notifications at a glance. Since display is a main source of battery drain on mobile devices, many smartphones limit the AOD content to black and white. However, some devices can show your wallpaper on the AOD, some personalize its appearance at the cost of battery life. Currently, Google Pixel phones do not offer this feature of the wallpaper on their AOD, but it may be changed with the next quarter and the Android 16 release.
Although Pixel phones have always exhibited a display (AOD) since the release of Pixel 2 in 2017, the ability to display wallpapers on the AOD has been particularly absent in most parts of the time. Google briefly tested this feature for Pixel 3 in 2018 but did not advance this feature to later devices. On the contrary, OEMS, such as Samsung and Xiaomi, have long been offered this functionality, and Apple has recently implemented a similar feature on its iOS platform. Now, it appears that Google Android is ready to reproduce AOD wallpaper support with 16 QPR1.

We have found evidence that has suggested that Google is developing a feature called ‘Embress AOD’. This version will always show the repetition of the fading of the lock screen wallpaper on the display, which is different from the implementation of the Pixel 3, with only a small wallpaper segment shown. This new approach is well alleviated with Android content 3 expressive design philosophy, which includes background blurring in various elements of the system such as the app drawer, guard, rental screen, and notification panel.
In Android 16 QPR1 Beta 1, Google clearly changed the setting of “always on -display”. Earlier, under the Settings> Display and Touch> Lock Screen, this setting in QPR1 Beta 1 is now on the Settings> Display and Touch on its own subpage. Although this new “Always On -Display” page currently includes only one toggle for AOD function as a whole, we have found strings into the Settings app that a “suggesting”Show the lock screen wallpaper“The toggle will be added soon.
This upcoming “Show Lock Screen Wallpaper” is written in Toggle description: “The lock screen wallpaper is always visible with display.” This toggle will be placed under a new “wallpaper options” section on the “always display” page. Although this placement points to the possibility of additional options for AOD wallpapers in the future, there is currently no indication that further development is active.

When we first reported about the ‘Mahayat AOD’ feature last month, some users expressed concern that it would not be optional, so we were happy to add a toggle to Google. Unfortunately, it is unlikely that Google will extend AOD wallpapers to the current pixel devices. When the feature is enabled, we have observed the screen flicker from time to time on existing models. This problem may arise from our previous observation that the purpose of the ‘acne AOD’ is for “special display” devices, which suggested the need for specific hardware level changes. Without knowing the exact features of the desired display, we cannot say exactly that the current pixel model will not receive the feature of the ‘acne AOD’, but it seems that Google is saving it for the next Pixel 10 series.
