Samsung and Apple have been closed in a race to make our most thin smartphone possible. But a serious compromise of a thin profile has a similar small battery, as we have seen with the Galaxy S25 Edge.
Apple may have a fix for it, with the next ultra -thin iPhone 17 allegedly playing new silicon batteries that pack 15 % more energy in the same space than current smartphone batteries.
According to a Bloomberg report, Apple and Samsung battery supplier TDK has accelerated its production timeline for its new generation of silicon-node batteries. A few months before the first window of September, the shipment is about to begin by the end of June.

“We have made good progress, and we are sending them very quickly,” said TDK Chief Executive Officer Noboro Sito. “Some handset makers will probably be able to use a new battery in their products early in a generation.” He added that “smartphone makers will have plenty of time to use these cells in thin models launched this year.”
This means that the iPhone 17 Air, which will be announced in September, may be the first Apple smartphone that offered the third repetition of the Silicon-Enode Battery Technology TDK. Apple was previously rumored to adopt silicon anode batteries for second -generation iPhone air, but with this new timeline, it seems that the first generation model may have these improvements in battery life rather than.
Chinese smartphone manufacturers have already begun upgrading their flagships in silicon batteries, who have been significantly longer than their American rivals.
Like a traditional graphite-based battery pack, TD’s silicon-node batteries secure about 15 % more energy in the same physical space. Additional density is possible because silicon can keep more lithium ions per gram than graphite, which allows the brands to squeeze lasting batteries in a lower real estate. This progress can be necessary to maintain a decent life of battery in extremely thin phones.
It is one of the biggest defects of the Galaxy S25 Edge, to date Samsung is the thin phone. Only 5.8 mm thick measurement, it lasted 12 hours and 38 minutes on full charge in our Galaxy S25 Edge battery tests, which is far below the time recorded by the Galaxy S25 ultra. Apple has finished its work for the iPhone 17 with the wind, even with rumors of 5.5 mm.
Although Apple iPhone 17 Air: Artificial intelligence can make your sleeve another trick for longer battery life. Bloomberg’s Mark Gorman had earlier reported that the company had the method of AI -powered administration in iOS -19 works, which would “analyze how a person uses his device and makes adjustments for energy protection.” To achieve this goal, Apple’s “using battery data has collected from consumer devices to understand and predict trends and should reduce the power draw of some applications or features.”
Among the AI -powered battery correction and the latest and largest silicon battery, the iPhone 17 Air is intended to leave the edge of the Galaxy S25 in the dust when it is talked about charging.
