Notifications offer a fast way to receive key information and messages without opening another app or unlocking your device. Depending on the contents of the notification, Android shows the recommended answers or shortcuts, making it easier to take action. For example, if a friend writes you the location of a restaurant, Android recognizes the joint address and provides a button to open it directly into the maps. Google can soon take advantage of its Gemini AI model and further enhance the Android notification system.

This evolution will develop existing features. The 2018 Android 9 release introduced a smart response, which provides the recommended answers as tapeable chips below the notification for a quick response. Although both smart responses and smart action are manufactured by the system notification assistant service using machine learning models, they have the limits of their current implementation. Smart answers often provide short, canned reactions that may not always be appropriate in context. Similarly, while smart action offers useful shortcuts, they may lack significant understanding and only easy steps can be supported.
Android Authority The evidence has been seen within Android 16, suggesting that Google is developing a sophisticated version of Smart Actions, known as “Magic Actions”. Although existing smart measures will be offered “magic actions”, the code indicates that it is a direct alternative. When the magic action feature is enabled, Android will hide smart actions and instead display a new magic action button. This button is designed to get a “special visual treatment”, possibly when it appears when it appears or is tapped, potentially indicates a custom animation.
Like smart action, magic operations will be developed by a system notification assistant service, which is a part of the Android System Intelligence app on most devices. We speculate that the Android System Intelligence will tap Google to create more personal and powerful steps in Google’s Gemini model. If our predictions about its abilities are correct, the magic process will represent an important upgrade on existing smart measures. Such progress will make the “magic” manner quite appropriate, which will align with Google’s AI -powered features such as a magic arzer and a magic editor’s suit.
The Magical Action feature is not expected to be an AI-driving notification upgrade for Android. Google is also working on AI -powered information summary and Gmail -style bundle notifications to help users easily manage their alerts. Although Google did not unveil them at the Android show earlier this week: I/O edition earlier this week, it would not be surprising to see them showing them in the main Google I/O event next week. These three features make it clear how Gemini can enhance Android’s intelligence, which makes them an important candidate for the disclosure of I/O.
